It just seems no matter who I talk to or what I read, so many people seem to swear by Becker CPA Review. I simply can not afford the $3400+ for Becker and I am looking at getting Wiley CPAexcel which after discounts/promo codes I can get for about $1150 or so. Am I going to regret purchasing Wiley down the road and wishing I had just spent the money on Becker?

I’ve never really been “great” at accounting as a whole, have mainly pushed a B in most all of my theory classes, with all of my Intermediate 1&2 and Advanced courses being very difficult for me and struggling to get a C. This has made me very worrisome about the FAR section of the exam and I am just really wanting something really thorough and explanatory to help me out. Right now I have a Gleim Financial Accounting ‘Exam Questions and Explanations’ book for FAR that I purchased to help me out with my Government course, and I try to work through the MCQs and am just having a very hard time. I am graduating in December and I plan to purchase the materials not too long after graduation and shooting for a February test date for FAR. I plan to be working part-time but do not want anything full-time right now so I can focus on studying.

Knowing my background, will CPAexcel be a good choice, or is it for more advanced and familiar users compared to Becker?

I used Becker and loved it, but other programs are very successful. One thing you want to be aware of is the fact that sometimes it's not so great to have everything taught to you in depth, as some of the courses tend to do. The way I think about Becker is this: it does not teach you much ‘why,' it teaches you how to beat the exam. And they are very successful in doing so. If you end up too bogged down in trying to understand the ins and outs of every single topic that could possibly be covered on test day, I guarantee you, you won't remember half of them. So, just be careful. I'm not a Becker sales girl or anything, and I think most all the major prep courses are comparable, I just wanted to say that it's not always a wonderful thing to re-learn everything in depth like you're in college. It's all about the 75.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

I almost got caught up purchasing different programs without really realizing my learning style. Keely made an excellent point about not trying to re-learn everything as it was in college. A Light bulb went off for me. I don't have enough time to re-learn every thing or devote the old college study way to this exam. I am not saying don't study, but if you can find a program to study and live with, do it. Just study…..With that said, Becker is probably a very good program, but I would not want to spend $3,000 on a program and not like it. So choose carefully and get to know your learning style.

That's a good idea, but wouldn't they purchase under their (old) id or code? Will they issue a new code? At any rate anything to save money.
