On page R2-52 and 53 of the Becker 2011 REG book, there is a list of items 1-10 under C. Adjustments where 6.-10. have * next to them.

Also on page R2-53, there are 2 more * under D. Tax Preference Items.

I went back through the lecture and book and do not see anything that explains what those * mean.

Can anyone help?

In the 2012 book (same pages) these are the AMT created from certain permanent differences that can't be carried forward as part of the AMT credit. AMT paid because of those items is never recovered. That's practically a quote from the book pg R2-53 under section E. Credit for Prior Year Minimum Tax

Hope that helps. I just read that tonight & was confused too until I read Sec. E where it explains it.
