I took AUD and I totally bombed out on Sims…. they account for 40% of the score πŸ™ I think I just failed because of Sims. Becker only offers a few sim questions per section, how do I prepare for Sims in the other sections?

The best way to prepare for the SIMs is to thoroughly understand the topics – not just know how to answer the MCQs but to really understand the topics. The reason for this is that the SIMs try to be more “real application”-style, so if you understand the real concept, you should be OK with them. Because there's so many topics, you'd have to do like 1000 SIMs to prepare that way, but by understanding the materials you can prepare for the SIMs even without having more to practice on.

@Steph08 I am using Becker right now for Auditing and will probably use the NINJA Sims and MCQ.

Protip: Use the AL whenver possible for the AUD sims. You can find examples in there that will provide the answers to you.

Steph, I studied hard using only Becker and I thought I bombed the SIMs…and mine weren't simple “look it up in the AL” type questions. But I'm still happy with Becker. I'm sure you will be too when you get your score.

    FAR--(5/27/14) 90
    REG--(8/11/14) 90
    AUD--(10/1/14) 88
    BEC--(11/24/14) 89 Done!!
    Virginia CPA License (12/24/14)

    Thanks guys

Only hit me now that these 7 sims weigh almost as much as the 90 MCQ's!!!!!! (ignoring pre-test Q's)

I don't think Becker prepared me for anything to do with the CPA exam. I passed FAR because of my classes in college. I've given it my all for the three exams I've taken. Followed Becker's plan, doing what they suggest and then some. It's probably just me, but Becker is not really what I expected when I invested nearly 4 grand. Every test I have taken, I felt that Becker prepared me for something else. I hope I pass REG, but honestly, I don't feel good about it.

This is just my opinion, which only reflects my personal experience. It could just be a lack of intelligence.

@Lilla – I agree with your logic of truly understanding the concepts and the reasoning behind the questions instead of running through SIMs. My first tries through the exams, I studied SIMs, but for what? Sure, I could practice questions, but I never saw a SIM like those that I had practiced. The only time I went into a SIM during my re-studying, is to review the layout and structure. I don't think it's too efficient or effective to study the SIMs to be honest; you never know what you're going to get – I'd think a person would be better off understanding journal entries and all of the MCQs.

@DoOver – I think I can relate to you and your Becker experience. In hindsight, I could feel the same way about my Becker materials, BUT I think I would only feel that way since I was the one simply going through the motions. I think a person using Becker will be well prepared if he/ she tries to understand the material as many agree to. I don't think it's a lack of intelligence either! Exam experience is partially luck with a lot of preparation. It's not an absolute value – just because a person studies 1,000 hours does not mean he will pass!

    Good luck! You'll get it!
