    Becker Question –

How many times should i read the chapter before testing? I’m having a really hard time keeping up with studying while working in my first busy season. I started intense studying around January and slacked off for a few weeks due to intense traveling and now i feel like i need to re-read chapters 1- 3 again. So would it be best to just review my notes and keep moving or re read chapters

I didn't actually read Becker either – listened to lectures, made notes, did MCQ.

However, I will also say that the OUTLINES helped me tremendously – I think they are often overlooked. Go to the study screen for any section (where you can choose from lecure, mcq, sims, etc) and you will see the outline button in the top right corner. I printed each of those out and made sure I knew the information on those outlines. If there was something on there I couldn't explain to myself or didn't understand, I'd go back to that part of the lecture/book and go through it until I figured it out.

i dont really utilize the videos anymore (sorry gearty is a genious but guy puts me to sleep. Team Olinto here) because I noticed it slows me down and I find it to be more efficient if I read the material myself (unless if its a topic that i am really lost on). I basically read through a chapter once, do the questions, where I will get anywhere between 50-70% right, go over mistakes, read the sections that focused on my mistakes, re-do my mistakes. Than when I do my final reviews, i read most of the book again along with my notes, unless if its a section I am really comfortable with. So I would say 2 times full, some parts 3 times? Honestly, the more you read it and familiarize yourself with it, that can only help.

Tough times don't last. Tough people do.

I had Olinto in a live class very good.

I like Gearty's use of the highlighter better

sometimes I pause the video to highlight everything and understand what is going on

I studied with Gleim. They have a Power Point presentation to which a voice reads along. These were usually about 10 minutes per topic, but could add up over a whole chapter. I usually half watched them to try to absorb anything or see if there's anything I don't know. Then I'd read the chapter – usually about 20 pages and did 10 pages of MCQ after that. Everyone's different, but I learn best by reading. Taking notes is too arduous if it's already written in the book.

I passed all of the exams with Gleim and saved a bunch of money in the process.

To answer your question, though, I would read the entire Gleim book in 4-6 weeks thoroughly and then go back over the entire book in 2-4 weeks before the exam. Don't give yourself too much time or you'll dread it too much and develop anxiety. The CPA is not about actually learning all the material, but regurgitating it on command.

I had a professor (a real hardass) that would say “if you got a 76, then you overstudied”.

When I was starting I read through things once. Now, I usually read through the material twice, do MCQs, then listen to the video to get a extra clarification on any topics I'm not clear on.

kcrc, if you get a 76 you have understudying risk which he did not account for in his model 😀 Having got a 74, extra study time to boost my initial score to an 80 would have saved me time. My current risk of understudying is very high. I will study BEC for three straight months if I fail because we are not permitted to take the same section more than once during any given testing window.

I feel this works best for me –

watch videos – reading the book at the same time

    watch videos for next chapter

go back to the chapter, read the book carefully then do homework

    ……

For review, read the whole book carefully, do as many questions as possible in progressive test

before exam – only read highlights and notes
