How long does it take to study for REG and BEC with Becker while working FT?

    Becker Question –

…so I just passed my first exam (HURRAY) and want to squeeze in REG and BEC before end of the year so I can get my bonus from work.

However, August 15 – October 15 will be blacked out due to extension busy season, and December is blackout for taking exams.

I work fulltime and also commute about 2 hours back and forth from/to work every week.

How long does it take to sufficiently prepare for REG/BEC? Or should I not worry about the firm bonus and just take my time to solidify a passing score?

Wow, that is a tough spot to be in. I think you are basically saying you have from October 15th to November 30th to study for and pass both parts while still working.

I studied about 111 hours for BEC in total and about 130 hours for REG. I passed BEC and not REG on my first attempt. It is important to remember the EVERYONE'S experience is different. It depends on many factors like how well you know the material already, how good of a test taker you are, how focused you are when studying, what materials you are using, etc. I am sure other people will post that they studied far less and passed, so it really just depends.

Unless the bonus is a significant amount of money, I wouldn't push it. You could end up wasting a lot of money taking parts you are just not properly prepared for. What I would do is create a schedule that includes your workday and commute. Then you can identify and plan out times where you could get in some studying. That way you can see if you even have 150-200 hours of time you could devote to studying.

Whatever you decide, make sure you plan ahead. That makes all the difference in the world! GOOD LUCK!

    BEC: 79 - April 2011
    FAR: 78 - May 2011
    AUD: 81 - May 2012
    REG: 79 - October 2012
    Ethics: Passed - March 2013
    I am finally DONE!

    Hi there,

I will give you some input from my experience with REG.

I worked full time and studied for REG in 32 days… I just found out that I passed with a 90%.

However, I was able to take about 10 of those days off.

Even without the days off, I still think it would have been doable.

However, you really need to have no life for that entire month. I didn't go out with friends, watch TV… I just worked, slept, ate, and studied.. I really didn't do anything else at all!

So, the amount of time that it takes to study really all depends on your dedication, committment, your personal situation.. and plus, your learning style.

Personally, I prefer to learn large amounts of material in a short amount of time… I feel that it all sticks and flows better. If that isn't your style, the August 15th dealine won't be doable…

Oh also, I am taking BEC in 27 days.

So I completely believe that you CAN take both BEC and REG before August 15th and pass them both… You just need to be honest with yourself about how much you want to study and how bad you want it!

    Good luck!

    FAR - 85
    AUD - 93
    REG - 90
    BEC - 87

    Can't believe it's over!
