Ok so I have been studying since September, 2013 with Becker and I have not passed any sections yet. I was extremely nervous about the CPA exam so I started out with BEC (since it’s a smaller section and I thought if I passed I would be pumped up for other parts). I sat for BEC in October and later found out that I got a 74, which was crushing! I have put so much time and effort into studying! I regrouped and started studying again for BEC, I bought Wiley Test Bank, NINJA audio and notes (which I thought were great), and redid all the questions and lectures in Becker. I had scheduled my retake to January 6th, 2014 and in the meantime I have scheduled FAR February 28th, 2014. BEC January 6th ended up getting canceled because of the Arctic Freeze in Chicago, so I rescheduled to January 13th. I sat for that exam, walked out feeling like I passed for sure this time.. Later found out that I got a 71! How is that even possible to get a lower score than the first time after I added in so much more material and redid Becker? I was so angry, I felt like I just got kicked in the face! So now since I had already scheduled FAR, I have been studying for it and I seriously feel like Becker is just not “sticking”. I can watch the lecture and after watching it I cannot remember anything that was covered in the lecture and the MCQ are a disaster to go through because most of the time I don’t learn anything from lecture. So needless to say I felt like I wasn’t ready for FAR and rescheduled to April 1st (NTS expires April 2nd), now I have another month to make sure I understand the material. I work full time, I come home exhausted, I study for 3 hours each night and 6 to 8 hours on each weekend day. I literally don’t do anything else other than work and study (I feel guilty even working out or going to dinner with a friend). I have all the motivation in the world to pass this exam, but i am starting to feel like Becker is just not doing it for me. I watched Roger CPA on youtube and it seems like those lectures are interesting and the couple videos I watched seemed to “stick”! Am I just panicking too much? I am so confused and not sure what to do. I am planning on taking FAR April 1st, BEC end of April and I think I might take AUD end of May. I feel like I have wasted so much time studying and I really cannot fail again, it’s so crushing! Please help and give me your thoughts, maybe some had a similar experience?

That's good that the cost of Becker isn't a factor here, as I was thinking when I read your post that Roger's program would probably fit your learning style better. It sounds similar to mine, and if I decide I need to buy a more expensive program than my current on-the-cheap method, my research into the various options led me to Roger. That's the one I will definitely get if needed.

BTW, there is a clip on YouTube of his appearance on the Dating Game. It's very funny.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Like you, I've had failures and no pass. I was having trouble remembering one chapter from the next studying for my last exam (BEC). My study techniques were watch a lecture, do MCQs, go to the next, then do nonstop MCQs my last 2 weeks. I failed.

This time I decided take Jeff's strategy. I watched all the lectures and took better notes..and on everything!, even on things I felt were simple and I'd remember later. After I finished all the lectures, I typed my handwritten notes. It was a pain and it took forever, but I feel I learned concepts better and I got a better set of notes to review/study from. I am actually getting MCQs correct because I know them and am not just remembering concepts from short term memory or guessing. I don't know if this strategy will keep you engaged more and help you, but your old way of studying isn't working then you really have nothing to lose.

    Passed all sections.

Kls238- please let me know how you do on your next test! I have my fingers crossed for you!

I felt like BEC was a crap shoot.. The first time I took it I was so nervous I ended up getting a migraine during the test. It was horrible! The WC was crazy, I didn't even know what it was asking me. For that one I got a 74, so I was alright I will get it for sure next time.

Next time I took it, I studied my butt off, took the test, was way more relaxed, walked out feeling like I passed, I knew most of the questions on the test and WC was a breeze.. Got that score and it was a 71. I seriously started crying like a baby, because I was so sure I passed and I just wanted to move on to other sections..

    Maybe next time Haha…

alinute – I know how you feel. When I started this process I thought for sure I would pass them all on the first try. I always did well in school without too much effort. These exams are nothing like I had ever done before. I failed REG twice before I decided to switch to study materials. I also decided to concentrate on FAR and go back to REG later. I switched to Gleim and combined thier process with Jeff's and did what worked for me. I have never been good at paying attention to lectures. I always daydream. I have learn best by reading and doing, and that's what I did. I passed the next three exams, had a little hiccup with BEC, but I am finally done.

    REG - 64, 72, 81!
    FAR - 77
    AUD - 79
    BEC - 72, 79! And Done!

If you don't need the whole Roger program, he does have a Cram Course that is cheaper, but I'm not sure how the materials are different from his regular stuff. FAR is $295. I'm considering getting that as a supplement to my other materials, just to help drive home the most important topics.

I may be overpreparing. Not sure. 😐

But the Cram Course seems like a cheaper way to get a bunch of his good videos.

Becker notes are fabulous because they're very details, but their teaching methodology sucks. I am using Becker and CPAexcel and I like CPAexcel because of their teaching approach.

    AUD 89 (07/06/14)
    REG 83 (08/27/2015)
    FAR 78 (04/27/2015)
    BEC 75 (11/13/2015)
