So im completing the Becker review and just wow. When i finished the review for FAR,REG and AUD i felt accomplished though i knew their was plenty of holes to patch. But with BEC i have no idea where to start, the entire material is a mess with more formulas then i know what to do with. Guess im just ranting, feel free to weigh in and throw in your two cents.

Bec is far less intimidating in real life.

Now REG is the beast I am trying to conquer, Any tips?

For Reg highly understand all basis questions!!! especially liquidated vs non liquidated. My test didnt seem to have much b-law, i highly recommend emphasizing mcqs over sims, after i left the test i noticed that their was just no way to study for them. I was completely clueless on the sims so i must have racked up all my points from the mcqs. Dont focus any of your time on phaseouts, i didnt see any, also i didnt see any specific numbers such as deductions for single vs marriage(stuff like that). Did you pass BEC? The cost stuff is killing me, and i have a pretty good understanding of it, just when it comes to actually solving these problems, theirs a ton of data with a mess of distractors, just killing me.

To put it simply, go chapter by chapter, hammer out MCQ's, write down answers to questions you're getting wrong and why a.k.a fact nuggets, and try to digest as much as possible. 30 days is plenty of time. How far along are you?

I always went through the MCQ's twice and chapters I performed well in a month out (like chapter 1 Corp Governance or Chap 4 IT, which you should have a base knowledge of from AUD) I would put away and only review the week prior as I wanted to focus my energy cost accounting or equivalent units. Strengthen your weaknesses and wrap it all up the last week with a final review.

    You can do it!

you left too much time. month might be too long, youll forget the formulas you hammered out in week one by the time you get to week 4.

in all seriousness you are more than ok with 4 weeks to review lol. i am surprised you are even worried. bang out MCQ's for 3 weeks and then if you're feeling the same way post again with your concerns.

im sure youll be fine, mitchmatch BEC just has that effect on people

One great tip for BEC, I crammed in the parking lot, and then wrote down all those annoying formulas as soon as I CPR the test. Truth is I didn't see so many of them and I managed to score very nicely anyways.
The reason I'm nervous for REG is that I thought I knew the basics, and now I'm falling the mcqs because of little details.

great tip rosecpa i did the same thing, that 10min timer they give you in the beginning, i spent 8 min of that just putting down formulas on my laminated sheet. why waste precious test time?

I did the same as well and it came in handy, although, I sort of think that if you know them well enough to write them done you might not have to look at them during the test. It was a comfort thing for me.

BEWARE! I read a horror story on this forum a few years ago about someone who lost track of their 10 minute timer to accept user agreements and got locked out of their exam! If you do it, don't let that happen.

By the way, I don't think you're allowed to wrote anything on your sheets before your timer starts.

It helps to know that you wont be using active memory on them.

that is false. you can do whatever you want from memory as long as you are not cheating with a cheatsheet/headphones/cellphones/etc

I guess it's like the rule I encountered in one testing center that you aren't allowed to sit with your legs of the floor.

i hear ya… like that time they wouldnt let me take my sweatshirt off (cuz i had answers taped to the inside of it supposedly?!)

differs from test center to test center i guess. basically if prometric employee is having a bad day- YOU'RE having a bad day!

write down all the formulas (around 50~60)

    memorized it!

and you will be fine for both cost accounting and financial management.

@Mitchmatch. I did the BEC Becker stuff in 3 days and then just took the test for BEC. I answered every Becker question at least once. Read every answer explanation, even if I got it right. Printed a few that had awesome explanations or other vocabulary-definition type of things and reread those the morning of the exam. I have been soooo busy at work that I just couldn't deal with studying for 3 weeks like I did on the others. I might have to retake it, who knows. Right now, I don't even care. I hated that section with all the heat and passion of a thousand burning suns. I did regret not paying a little more attention to a couple formulas, but in the end they kind of came to me. I actually think I passed. I could never stress and think about something for that long before taking it. Depending on your test-taking abilities, you can usually eliminate a couple obviously wrong answers and then puzzle out the rest. The thing about an exam with so much variety, your chances of failing because of one concept is really pretty slim. Don't ignore the formulas that are new to this section. Focus more on those. The formulas Becker emphasizes are the important ones. It is unnecessary to memorize all 50-60 financial ratios when the emphasis is on cost accounting in this section. If you really look at them, you will see that there are some “base” concepts to them. Like other test takers have said before, do not underestimate how well you will need to know COSO and ERM. Sing a song or something, but get the keywords memorized and in the right places.

    REG - 85 (8/31/15)
    FAR - 82 (10/30/15)
    AUD - 84 (11/30/15)
    BEC - 77 (5/31/16)
