I just took my First Final Exam results

    Testlet 1: 58

    Testlet 2: 54

    Testlet 3: 46

    SIMS: 75. 40, 50, 80, 0(i hate research question), 50

I finished MCQ doing twice in Becker, and few like three times already. I feel like I know, the material. but why so low results.

I only watched videos, and read the book onces. I had like 50 mins in the review exam. After testlet 1, I just got tired, because most the materials I didn’t even know.

I'm not sure which test you're specifically talking about. But, as I'm sure you already know, the Becker practice tests are notoriously difficult. Despite that, your scores show some real deficiencies. You're not ready to take the test especially if you've already gone through the questions 2 or 3 times. Going through the questions multiple times sometimes even artificially inflates your score if end up learning some of the questions instead of the actual material. It's really hard to tell where you're going wrong from the scores themselves, but the best bet would be to analyze your performance in terms of the different topic areas and specifically focus on your weaknesses while also making sure to maintain your strengths.

Have you taken REG actual exam? If so, are you actual exam is easier than becker. Then this helps a lot.

I think I was focus much. I had 52 mins left when I finished everything. Also did not go back to review

    the questions I flagged.

Also I did not look over the correct answers yet. I want retake it in few days. I like SIMs more than MCQs

Should I focus more on BLAW or tax.

    Thanks for your feedback

I just took my REG exam yesterday and I also use Becker. The first practice exam is extremely hard and I also didn't do well on it (I think 76% for all 3 MC sections combined) and about 70% for the Sims (I think for that research, they didn't have that section of the IRC in the software). The second practice exam is somewhat easier compared to the first exam.

On the real exam, the MC is a lot easier than the ones on Becker. However, the Sims are a lot harder than Becker and takes much more time to complete (At least 1 hr). Without disclosing much, I would recommend also reading over the topics that Becker said not likely will appear on the exam at least once more as I encountered a few of those and totally threw me off. But make sure you know the major topics and you should be well prepared for the exam!

    AUD - 91
    FAR - 90
    REG - 87
    BEC - 91
    Ethics - 98

    @TheBsEr

For BEC, first exam was easier and 2nd exam was harder. I was getting like 90s for BEC, and 2nd I was barely @ 70%. Now, I feel better to know, which practice to focus on.

I will try to take 2nd practice after I review EVERYTHING. So, whats the deal with the research question, I think these are easy points, but I could easily get 0, because I never gotten any correct answers to these questions during practice.

what you said about REG, is what I felt about BEC for becker and real exam.

Reg sims I thought were quite difficult- I didn't do any of the sims on Becker, though.

I totally thought I bombed Reg, but ended up passing. On the final exam I think I got around the 60s – mostly because I wasn't trying too hard and just like you, got tired after the first testlet haha.

Did you go through the HW carefully (reading answer responses)?

I think I had around 70's for final exam #1 & 2.. I would keep reviewing the MCQ's.. and I spent a few hours re-reading chapter 1 through 4 (the tax), as well as all ethics & professionalism section.

As far as law, I only did the MCQ's. I think this was more then enough. The SIM's weren't bad at all. I thought that Becker prepared me very well after I saw my score, and thought about it. So if you continue reviewing the areas you are weak in, you should be good to go!

    Good luck! 🙂

    thank you @futuremdcpa.

I feel more comfortable with REG, then I did with BEC. but my scores are lower than 75. I was hoping to get passing grade. I really like Becker on how it prepares for real exam. But these scores kind of gives me red flag on where I am.

but these exams had more BLAW, the tax. I can understand tax will be there in SIM

Here this might help you… these are the threads I started about a month ago before my REG exam:

Also many people posted on here some advice for REG (I had 11 days left): https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/reg-in-11-days-what-to-do

Read what others have mentioned I should work on, and see if it can apply to you.

LOL…I am just like you during the exam, if I know the answer I get it in 20 secs., if I don't, I just make educated guess, without reviewing..I am inpatient and not good at taking exam

After doing the exam, I dont like looking at the answer for review, b/c I wont learn like that. I like to re-take it over & over, until I get it above average. do you think, I should just review the exam, and see why I got certain questions wrong?

But thats really good to know, real exam is easier the Becker personally I feel like SIMS are easier then MCQ.

I m not going to use Wiley, because becker is better than wiley. I havent tried AICPA release questions, so I will do those.

    thanks futuremdcpa!

I just took BEC today, and I am sure I failed it.. It felt like I was taking an exam in a foriegn language! You, at least passed BEC..

I would review the final exam answers, the right and wrong ones, and make sure you understand everything. I would then go back and briefly read through R1-R4(tax), and the ethics portion too. I would then do as many MCQ's as possible. Try to do all 630~ish tax MCQ's, and law MCQ's as possible! Dont memorize!!!

It took me like 1.25 1.5 hours for the whole exam.. but when I took BEC today, it took me every minute! I guessed on so many 🙁

yeah, thats what I feel about BEC and REG..REG at least I can understand, I just got MEMORIZE all those rules and limitations. BEC was foreign language.

I try not to memorize MCQ. whenever, I am doing Progressive tests, (24 each time) I am getting 87+ all times. so felt I would get that on final exam too. but i guess i was wrong

For BEC exam 1 was easier (because all mcq cam from HW) do as many MCQ in becker.

Hi Shay, I certainly would not rely on the progress tests in Becker as a guide for a real score. If you're doing progress tests, you've seen those questions at least once, if not several/many times. That's not a good gauge.

Everyone does say Becker Final Exams are brutal, but I just took Final 1 and I didn't find it to be crazy, or on any topic that wasn't covered in the review material. The questions I got wrong were because I simply could not remember the way to solve the problem. That's why REG sucks, because it's just a bunch of damn rules.

    Anyway, my results were: T1: 79 T2: 87 T3: 75. SIMs were 75, 80, 90, 80, (I didn't even attempt the research questions since no one has gotten it), and 78.

My advice is to read the book again and take diligent notes. I reread the book at least once a week (so I have read it about 8 times now, ha!) because it keeps the material fresher in your mind than doing progress tests. Then go back and do ALL the MCQs again. That's what I would do.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

@keelydare1 I dont like Progress test either. getting 87s because I they appear over & over. I just do MCQ over and over from each chapter.

I read book 2 times already. and do go back and re-read certain sections I cant remember. I have read R5-R8 3 times, because these are memorizing topics, unlike, tax, which involves math/exception

I had my exam scheduled on 8/24, but changed to week after, since I though results, come out on same day, why not take few days extra to review.

I did not take any notes or flash cards, I highlighted everything that was in videos, I re-read it like its my notes, because if I were to take notes, I would end-up re-writing beckers notes. I might make formula sheet for R2-R3.

8 times, thats awesome!..u dont work? ( I dont, but thats hard to read complete book in one wk)

No, I don't work at the moment. I read one chapter per day usually. It doesn't take very long just reading. The real time consuming thing is taking notes, but I take them maybe twice per chapter. My exam is scheduled for 8/24 too and I thought about rescheduling it for a week later so I wouldn't have to wait for my score as long, but I think I'll probably forget things in that week so I should go ahead and take it and get it over with! Good luck, I'm sure you'll do well.
