FAR Simulations- Becker or Wiley?

I am re-taking FAR 5/28 and really need some score improvement on the SIMS. I have Becker (with SIMS) and the Wiley Bank App (without SIMS). I thought when I bought the Wiley App that it would include SIMS but it didn’t.

Will I be ok using Becker SIMS, or do I need purchase the Wiley bank AGAIN just to get the SIMS?

Thanks for the input in advance?

I think the Becker should be enough. But I've heard Wiley Sims are harder than Becker sims. The Wiley Review Textbook has quite a few sims. I think it's $60-$80 for only the FAR section. Good Luck. 4th time's a charm.

I cannot speak to Becker but I can for Wiley. I feel that the wiley “book” adequately prepared me for the FAR sims. I think the extra $70-90 is well worth it. Their MCQs are also very challenging and will definitely increase your confidence. There is also several practice tests in the back of the wiley book for added practice. Best of luck and hope you can finally end this journey this time around.

    FAR - 85 (4/12/13)
    REG - 85 (7/18/2013)
    AUD - 89 (10/7/2013)
    BEC - 84 (11/27/2013)

How did you use the Wiley Test Bank? What were your scores?

I generally do a practice testlet of 30 MC and 2 Sims. I use the setting where you don't see the correct answers until the end. I don't look at notes. I try and do the MC in 45 min and the Sims in 30 min. I'm trying to simulate exam conditions.

I'm scoring combined in the 70s to 80s but my MCs are in the 60s to low 70s. I'm a little concerned but my previous experience w/ Wiley Test Bank and the final exam is that if you can get your aggregate score including MC and Sims to 74 – 75 you are OK.

    BEC - 5/2012 - 91
    AUD - 8/2012 - 89
    REG - 1/2013 - 90
    FAR - 5/2013 - 88

I've used them both, in my opinion I would focus on the Becker Sims and understand major concepts. My FAR experience was odd in that my Sims were the easiest part of the whole darn exam! Reg was terrible and I thought I did not to so well on Aud. I would suggest grasping journal entries and major concepts through tons of MCQ's and practice the Becker Sims a couple times..

The Wiley test bank was excellent for simulating real exam experience BUT i highly recommend the Wiley book. The wiley test bank does not have all the mcqs and sims that are in the actual book. Also, I would focus heavily on government, non profit, and IFRS. Gov't and non profit are about 15% EACH and you will definitely get IFRS questions as well.

As far as scoring, I was scoring in the high 70s to 80s on the test bank for FAR but the questions are the same and become repetitive after a while. If you are using becker, Yager, Roger, whom ever, great, however, it would be beneficial to supplement with the wiley book for additional practice. As other have been saying, focus on your weak areas and do a ton of MCQs. Once the “concepts” are grasped, you can solve anything thrown your way. Good luck!

    FAR - 85 (4/12/13)
    REG - 85 (7/18/2013)
    AUD - 89 (10/7/2013)
    BEC - 84 (11/27/2013)

Thomas's point is very valid. Focus on those particular areas not only because they are heavily tested, but also because they are conceptually (well not so much IFRS) but NFP and Govt are quite a bit “backwards.” … Also, Thomas's signature speaks for the great Tony Horton, so you know he's not messing around!

Thanks guys. I'm going through the Becker Final Review, making my own notes and doing MCQs from Becker & Wiley. I'll go through Becker SIMS too.

I recommend the Wiley Test bank sims. You get 164. I did almost all of them. They really helped me because I needed that extra practice to be more proficient on my fourth hour of the exam. I would be so burnt out that it was hard for me to pick through a big, intimidating sim and figure out what they were really asking me to do. If you are more used to sims going into the exam then you have a better chance when you get to “fourth hour burnout.”
