My actual exam was originally scheduled to be on 27th November 2013 but I postponed it to the first week of January 2014 because I FAILED THE BECKER PRACTICE EXAM# 1 WHICH I TOOK TODAY. My scores are as follows:

    Testlet 1: 40 %

    Testlet 2: 43%

    Testlet 3: 43%

    Testlet 4: 75, 34, 25, 0, 43, 38, 100

Can someone please advice me on how to prepare a good study plan that will guarantee a passing score??? (FYI, I don’t work)

I think I failed because I practiced only about 50% of the Becker H.W. and I’ve been surviving only on 4 hrs. of sleep ever since I started my final review on Nov 8. I’ve attended the classroom lectures for FAR with Becker and taken 2 Progress tests for 6 chapters. I’ve read the whole Becker 2013 FAR book at least 3 times and I memorized the J/E.

However, when I saw the practice exam questions today, I totally blacked out. All suggestions/advice/ tricks to pass are welcome. I have no intention of wasting money on other study materials like Yaeger, Ninja Notes, etc.

(My CGPA in university was above 3.5. I never thought studying for CPA could be so stressful.)

I think you have the advantage to add more time to your studies, you are half way already so review your weak areas and do many MCQ until you feel comfortable.

I don't think accounting journal entries should be memorized, that is probably a thing you can improve.

    Good luck!

Don't worry about it that much. I was so nervous too when on the last day of my study, I was trying to take the simulation exams on Becker, get score like 60s, then I called my friend. She told me she got 50s in Becker, then scored 70s in her real exam, so she told me I should be able to score 80s. And in reality, I did score 80s in FAR. So, don't take too serious for the Becker simulation, they are harder than the real exam.

    AUD - 76 (May 2012)
    BEC - 81 (July 2012)
    REG - 61 (Aug 2012), rematch 83 (October 2012)
    FAR - 85 (May 2013)

Thanks for the advice/suggestions everyone. Has anyone here passed the actual exam by just scoring 50 – 60% in the homework for chapter 3-6. That is presently my score for those chapters.

In the week before the exam, I'm planning to take practice exam 2 and take 5 progressive tests each covering all chapters consisting of 90 MCQs. Is this a good idea? Do you think I should practice SIMS or master the MCQs?

@kkimi05 Can you tell me what your scores were on your Homework the first time you took your exam in chapters 3-6? Have any of the AICPA questions been repeated in the final exam?

@Lily – IMHO the MCQ's are paramount. I would practice them until you were in the 80% range at least. Then make notes of the essential formulas, and review them until you have them down cold. And also do the sim's of course.

Then on the day before the exam, and even on the day of the exam, review your notes.

    FAR 88
    AUDIT 82
    BEC 74, 12/4/2013 84 Thank You Lord Jesus !!!

@Lily…doing the multiple choice questions is VERY important. When I was studying for FAR I would do them until I got 100% right in each section and then redo them all (including the optional practice questions) during review. It is also important to know why you got a question right or wrong and not just memorize the right answer. I would highly recommend Wiley Test Bank as well. I think it's about 80-90 dollars for the section and another71 does specials all the time….definitely worth it to get some new questions and a few items that Becker doesn't cover. For the SIMS your best bet is knowing the information in and out (i.e. J/E, pensions, bonds, etc). Good luck!

    REG - 86
    FAR - 80
    BEC - 79
    AUD - 92...I'm done woohoo!

I'm not giving so much attention to the scores on my H.W. rather I focus on the progress test scores. I scored 70% when I took 1 progress test for chapters 3 & 4 consisting of 40 questions.

What would you say is an ideal score if I was taking a progress test of 40 questions for every 2 chapters?

Lily, I probably scored consistently in the 70's io the progress tests. I usually did 25 questions at a time. I would then go back and concentrate on the areas I was weak. I also was wanted to get my time down to less than 1 minute per question.

I probably worked well over 1200 questions in the month before the exam and worked all the SIMs 2 weeks before the exam.

I scored in the 70s on my practice exams.

    Reg - Passed 82 Nov 2012 - Becker
    Aud - Passed 86 May 2013 - Becker
    BEC - Passed 88 Aug 2013 - Becker
    FAR - Passed 88 Nov 2013 - Becker
