    Becker Question –

Ok I know a lot of people post their practice test scores, but I figure I could throw mine out to see if people who have taken this test before have any insights into what I might be looking for come test day.

    My first practice test was:

    Testlet 1: 73

    Testlet 2: 80

    Testlet 3: 83

Sims: Averaged about 80 on those

I have not sat for a real test before so can anyone help me how to maybe translate these scores to figure out if I really need to cram before my test in 3 days? Thanks for any help!

    AUD----92 5/31/12
    FAR----92 7/3/12
    RED----85 8/3/12
    BEC----?? 8/29/12

Becker practice exams are notorious for being much harder than the real thing. I haven’t personally done the FAR ones yet, but I have taken the AUD and REG ones. I only got around 70-75% overall on both. You can see what my actual AUD score was. I prepared just as well for my REG exam on Monday. Congratulations in advance for passing your FAR exam! You would pass the exam now.

    A (05/23/12) 92
    R (07/02/12) 77
    F (08/29/12) 69 Retake 2/27/13 80
    B (10/22/12) 79

I did not record my practice exam test, but seem to remember getting similar scores to you. Got a 92 on the exam. It all depends on what kind of SIMS you get, in my opinion. I felt like the SIMS on the test were longer and/or more complicated than what I got in Becker, but still evidently did OK on them. One of them I just plugged numbers and JE's in because I felt I was running out of time. Just relax and take the exam just like you took your practice exam and don't freak out -it's just a test. Just try your best to save enough time for the SIMS (like 90 minutes or so – more if possible). Good luck!

    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
    BEC - 92 (8/30/12)

Time is my major fear. I wish we could use a regular calculator. I have been using my TI one from high school, and I am dreading using the one on the computer. In my first practice exam I only left 75 minutes for the simulations! I need to remember to move on if I get stuck on something instead of sitting there and punching numbers into my calculator.

I was afraid of the calculator also, but only because I currently do all my work on a MAC that doesn't have a number keypad, so I had to use my scroll pad to click on every number I needed, which took forever! It wasn't until a week or so before my test that it occurred to me that there would be number keys on my keyboard at the test. So it wasn't as bad as I expected. Of course, not as good as having a regular calculator nearby, but doable. I would put that calculator away and practice with your computer number keypad if you have one!

When I did my practice tests I had time left over; when I took the test, I went down to the wire. My SIMS took more time on the test than the Becker test ones did. So yes, don't let yourself get bogged down with a MCQ too long. I did that once or twice, but I think it is better to pick an answer and flag the question, get to the end of your testlet, then make a decision regarding time and how you felt about the rest of the testlet whether to go back and look at that question again, or move on.

I pretty much followed the Becker system completely because I was taking a CPA review class that required it. Watch lecture, do homework for that section, write notes, next lecture, homework, notes, etc. All optional MCQ's, SIMS, and progress tests. After I was done with the chapter I would make flashcards. I had to get done with one week per chapter (I work full time, so it usually took me the whole week to get through all that). After the last chapter, I went through the Final Review course (also required by my class), rewrote or at least added to many of the notes I had taken, then worked on MCQ's for the last couple days before the exam. I also made sure to do the Becker exams (4 hours each), which I could only fit in on the last two days prior to my exam. In the future I would try to do that a little earlier, if I could, so I would have time to review anything I struggled with. FAR was my first test and I had no idea what to expect, and really had no idea how I had done when I left the exam either. But I also had about 14 weeks to study (12 week class, then spent 2 more weeks reviewing), which is a lot of time compared to what some people do it in. Although I also had to write a paper and do a Power Point presentation as part of my class, so that also took extra time. Good luck!

I have no clue if it will work on not but I just graduated and I am killing my free summer studying for all 4 tests. I study about 10-12 hours a day 7 days a week for 4 weeks now. I hope it will work out for me in the end. @Momto5 I have read the book (or at least skimmed through the whole book about 3 times on my own) and watched the lectures twice. I have one practice test left which I will do tomorrow before my test on Tuesday. I am just praying I did not waste a whole month for nothing!

@IfThereisaGod Your practice scores look solid so it looks like you'll pull it off! Can't imagine cramming the information for all 4 tests in such a short time, but sure hope that works for you! Just be ready for that feeling of “I have no idea if I passed or not” when you leave the test center – it is common. Good luck with managing your time, but don't freak out about it or you will lose even more time because you won't be able to think straight. I'll be watching for your post of your passing score on release day! Good luck!
