FAR – Becker FAR Homework Percentages

    I am through the first four sections of the Becker FAR review course and have been scoring in the high 60s and low 70s on the review homework and supplemental questions going at the Becker recommended study pace and method. Should I be worried about these low percentages?

    I feel like I know the material somewhat well from school but the homework questions keep tripping me up? Does anyone have any advice about the Becker FAR review course or other review strategies that may be helpful?

    If this is your first time through the MC, then you are right on track, even better! When you go through them a second time you will increase your score dramatically!

    FAR 10/1/2010 =====> 90
    BEC 10/28/2010 ====> 81
    REG 2/2/2011 ======> 82
    AUD 5/28/2011 =====> 92 ===========>DONE!!!!

    Wait until you see F2 and beyond…

    I was scoring about the same as you for F1, but more towards 50s in later chapters. It is really demotivating but I have no other choice but to keep going…

    Welcome to my world! It is uniquely frustrating and, as BeckerUser said, demotivating. I too did very well in college and thought I was strong in financial until Becker happened to me.

    We'll see next week how well the review course has paid off, but don't be disheartened at all by low homework scores–they're entirely normal. In fact, high 60's and low 70's seems to be the general consensus around here for how people did on their first time through.

    Having just completed my F1 final review, I can agree with SoonToBeCPAChick that my scores got better the second time through. F2, however, is still a catastrophe and it remains to be seen if going through the material a second time will help my scores.

    When Becker does a concept well (income statement, partnerships, statement of cash flows, governmental accounting, and a few others) they do it REALLY well and you will feel prepared for the multiple choice/sims. However, for a lot of topics (pensions, intercompany transactions, and pretty much the entirety of either F5 or F6) you will be left yelling at your computer screen asking where in God's name the material from the question was EVER addressed in the lectures.

    Don't worry–just keep motoring through it. I think after my final review, I'll know at least enough to get a 75, which is all that matters!

    FAR 07/27/11 - 87
    AUD 10/01/11 - 85
    BEC 11/15/11 - 87
    REG 01/03/12 - 92

    I'm averaging right around 60% on my questions the first time through, I'm in F-5 right now. I don't think that's too bad, I'm ok with it.. Although I would like to see myself around the 80% mark eventually…that's why I think I'm going to postpone my exam an extra month so I can go through all the questions again.

    FAR - F (2011), 5/16
    AUD - F(2011)
    BEC -
    REG -

    2nd attempt at this thing. Time to get serious.

    For the exams that I have passed thus far I have ranged from 50-80% on any given section of homework the first time through in Becker. Several large sections I have gotten less than 50%. I would not even pay attention to the percentage. It is such a boat load of information it is nearly impossible to remember some of the nit picky things they ask you on certain questions and sometimes you will calculate something correct and forget one small detail in calculations. First time through it is important to make notes since some questions are not covered by Becker and to make sure you understand it. The portions of the exam I passed have been with solid passing scores. I would not pay attention in the least to that number. It is simply a percentage. The main issue is whether you are learning as you do the questions. Ignore everything else and focus on learning.

    Your sentence about knowing the material well in school but the homework questions tripping you up is a perfect description of the difference between college tests and the CPA exam. Rather than just knowing how to solve a problem if you're given the material in a straightforward fashion, you have to be able to understand the concepts well enough to derive the needed facts indirectly. Use the homework as a learning tool rather than worrying about the % you got right. Make sure you understand why an answer is correct instead of just knowing which one is correct. Make notes on those about topics that aren't included in the lectures and text. You will do better on these questions during your review.

    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
