Do any of you just skip the Becker lectures?

I was talking to some people who used Becker and they said dont bother wasting the time with the lectures. Do MCQ until my eyes bleed.

Is this a good strategy? I have been using up about 5 hours a chapter watching all the lectures, highlighting and then going back and retaking notes. I guess I could do each sections MCQ 2-3x over with an additional 5 hours of study time.

What do you all do regarding lectures?

I watch them, but I find I am not retaining as much. I feel I am hurrying up trying to write what he is saying. I think I would have done better if I went through it on my own then watched the difficult portions I couldn't get on my own. Everyone learns differently tho, but that it is my opinion. I tried to do what they say!

If you skip the lectures, please don't blame Becker when you fail.

well i was thinking to skip BEC lectures. But evenutally i am listening to them.

I have realized that this not only makes optimum use of my time but also helps me to stay focused . If i am reading book on my own i always go off the track and either go to my dreamworld or sometimes read too much . :

    Good luck

Okay so heres the thing.. Every time I study for BEC/REG/AUD I always told myself, OK next exam I study for I am skipping all lectures since they are a waste of time!!!

But you know what? I don't.. and even though it may seem like your not retaining anything.. You will be surprised how much you remember come exam day. Trust me. Its happened to me many times. Even if I am on google or facebook and have the lecture playing for a minute or two in the background, I remembered some of the stuff.. and it has been very helpful.

When I go back to read the chapter, it makes it easier for me to understand since they explained the concept, maybe not in detail, but good enough for me to understand it better then I would have, have I not watched them and just read.

Just don't do what I did for REG/BEC/AUD.. I would take a whole damn day to watch a 3-4 hour lecture.. They should not have a pause button!!!! Set it on play, and power right through it!!!!!!

REG: PASS || BEC: PASS || AUD: PASS || F: SCORE PENDING..

I did live classes for audit, far and reg. Switched to self-study for BEC cause my schedule didn't work out for the live classes – I could not stand watching the video lectures so I skipped all of them! Ended up scoring the lowest on BEC out of all my exams (78). If I had watched the video lectures, I think I would have scored higher.. but that's just my opinion.

If you have the time, I would say go ahead and watch them. It can't hurt, and if you end up with a fail, you will be able to say you did everything you could instead of kicking yourself for not watching!

    F 7/25/12 80

The Becker lectures make me insane (“again, you'll want to–again–be sure to–again–note that–again…again it's, again, what we–again, should, again….), and I don't think I got much out of them. But I force myself to sit through them, purely because every once in a while they'll make some useful offhand comment about this or that being heavily (or rarely) tested. All in all, though, seems like a waste of valuable time.

You paid top dollar for the best review course — don't start skimping out now. Watch the lectures, and if you feel like you're wasting your time, then read the book at the same time (which is what I did). Go ahead and pause when you need to catch up rather than trying to force yourself through it as quickly as possible.

Why the hell would you skip the lectures? Are you on a time crunch or something? I watch them once and that's it. There's no reason to watch them more than that unless you need clarification on a certain topic. I just don't understand why you'd not utilize all the tools at your disposal? For me, the lectures are nothing more than a very broad overview of what to focus on while studying and some basic examples. But they are a good guide, and I really don't advise you skip them. That just creates a hell of a lot more work for yourself. Becker has it down to a science as to what's going to be on the exam, at least from my experience.

And whoever's talking about Tim Gearty's “again, again,” holy SHIT that is SO annoying! I cringed just reading you writing about it! So glad I don't have to hear him anymore in AUD.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

LOL Keely, I am in the middle of AUD with Tim Gearty and again, yes it does, again drive me, again insane… Hey, but I appreciate all the little tips and fact nuggets that he gives during the lecture. Becker has not failed me to this point and I have used everything they have to offer to get through 2 exams and hopefully on my way to #3. So yes, while the lectures may be boring and sometimes even annoying, I feel that they at worst help you get a couple of more questions on the exam right. So for that reason alone I would say sit through it. After all, you will be kicking yourself afterward if you didn't and then fail the exam and wish that you had. To me that would be worse. Good luck to us all!!

    FAR - 81
    REG - 75
    AUD - 85
    BEC - 79

Thank goodness it's over... Now on to the next step...

As much as Gearty killed me, I watched all the lectures. I probably could've passed without them. But I figured reading and listening would help me remember the material better. The lectures weren't exactly great, but they did sometimes help me put things together, emphasize something or point out a trick.

You are so missing out if you skip thru the lectures! They are helpful for me when i am on the bus, listening to the key points of the chapters”. Plus tim and peter never fail to make me laugh with their jokes ie tim and his pink dresses, and peter's stab-your-leg suggestion when you miss a straightline depreciation lols

@DatFutureCPA … the first comment I made I believe was too soon. Yes I feel I went way to fast through the lectures, but as I am sitting here doing my note cards I am seeing how many things I am actually making cards on just from what I wrote down in addition to the text. You need to give it a try. Good Luck!!!
