Ditch Becker MCQs for Ninja MCQs? (FAR)

    Hello all,

Over the past few weeks I listened to all of the Becker FAR lectures, and worked Becker MCQs for a few days. I started to get frustrated and was feeling very unmotivated and I think it was because of the wordiness and calculations that most of the FAR HW for Becker seems to have. Yesterday I purchased the Ninja MCQ test bank and have done about 4 hours of that so far and it seems like the problems go way quicker and I am feeling more motivated.

Seeing as Becker MCQs have been my ticket to passing the other 3 exams, I am nervous about giving Becker up but I just can’t get myself to focus on the Becker questions. Advice? Should I force myself to do both? Or is Ninja sufficient? Should My exam is the 29th so I don’t have time to mess around! WWYD?

    Thanks!

I wouldnt give up Becker if the reason you're doing so is because you're not doing well on them or because you feel like they're harder. Personally, I would do all the Becker questions and supplement with Ninja. I'm taking FAR tomorrow and I went through the full Becker course once and then pretty much used the Wiley Test Bank to review. I think Becker will prepare you better for the test.

I was in the EXACT same spot you are in a few months back. I too was 3 in and afraid to rock the boat. On my first FAR fail I found myself so deep in calculations and MCQ's with calcs which would actually be 1 of 3 or 4 with the same fact pattern but different scenarios and so unmotivated, that I hated being in front of the laptop.

I bought WTB for the retake (the 10 point combo) and I immersed myself in that fully. I played Ninja audio twenty three hours out of the day (well, only on my commute really) and did WTB at all other times.

I think the change to WTB is healthy, I think MORE questions are actual AICPA releases as opposed to those written poorly as sht adapted crap. I think the shift to a more conceptual type of thinking versus remembering formulae would be good.

I do all my WTB in practice mode and I love the instant feed back and the pretty good text references. I say go for it. You post really brought back all the misery I felt sitting in front of those long winded adapted questions, wasting 40 minutes to get through five complicated calc adapts.

No signatures today, so I feel like I should let you know that I did pass FAR with WTB/Ninja.

You should work on both, and dont forget to take Becker's finals.

Its not really that i'm doing worse on Becker questions, so far my average % is about the same on both, its that it seems like it takes forever to get through the Becker problems. One other thing that I really don't like is that I can't do a mix of topics unless I do a progress test which doesn't show me the correct answer right away if I get it wrong (I think I learn better seeing the incorrect answer immediately). I think I'm going to keep trying to do a mix…

    Good luck on your exam!!

I strong believe you need to use Becker as you cornerstone and Ninja as supplement. I had the same issue, feeling that Becker questions are easy compared to Wiley but still Becker explanation and notes is top compare to anything out there. I am using CPAexcel and i supplement withe Becker.

Thanks for the advice all! Glad to know i'm not alone with my frustration! I did NOT have this problem with the other sections. They just seem to go a little overboard with wordy long problems with FAR!

NINJA has Adaptive Learning and will expose your weak areas.

    Plus, it's $47 🙂

    Jeff,

I am currently doing Ninja MCQs and really liking them. Just wondering if I would be safe at this point switching completely to Ninja MCQs and ditching Becker MCQs even though I haven't gotten through all of the Becker questions?

Yes – you can do that and here's why:

NINJA uses AICPA-licensed questions like most providers, so that's a wash.

You're at an advantage with NINJA with the Adaptive Learning feature – which makes it stand apart.

I took BEC on May 17 and almost all questions I practice with Ninja MCQ's were there!! It was a good surprise. I definitely change completely from Becker to NINJA

I am currently in the same boat. Debating on ditching Becker for Ninja. I really can't focus when trying to do Becker. I haven't bought any Ninja stuff except the Ninja Notes, and I'm debating on purchasing the 10 Point Combo or just the MCQs. Any thoughts? Haven't been a big fan on Becker from the beginning and I only recently passed REG.

I have Becker and Ninja 10 point. I love the Ninja products. I am studying for a retake of FAR. I am going through becker first to review the information and then I am going to focus on Ninja MCQ for the final review. I love the notes as well as the Audio. I feel like I can study whenever and wherever.

    FAR - JULY 2014 - PASSED
    BEC - MAY 2015 - PASSED
    REG - AUG 2015 - PASSED
    AUD - AUG 31 2015

@jennibfox – That sounds like a good study plan! I just have so much trouble focusing on Becker and the explanations when I get something wrong were never enough. I always had to go looking somewhere online for someone to explain it better. Maybe I'll look into Becker and NInja. Thanks!
