I’ve passed 3 sections of the exam using cpaexcel, but overall I’m very dissatisfied with it. It’s taken me multiple tries to pass each section, and I feel like the only reason I passed those 3 parts was because of all the supplementary study materials I’ve purchased (ninja notes+audio, wiley test bank, yaeger cram for reg). I’m taking FAR on Friday, which hopefully I will pass and be done with the whole thing. However, I feel severely under prepared like never before and I know I shouldn’t be thinking about failing but I’m just trying to plan my next move in the worst case scenario. I’m thinking about switching to Becker for FAR. Does anyone have advice on this? Have you done it? I’m trying to figure out if I should make the switch and pay the money or if I have an unfair judgment of cpaexcel and should stay. Thanks

I've only taken one exam so far, FAR, and I passed with an 87. When I bought CPAexcel, I got “free” access to the WTB as well. I think the test bank is what made the difference. Going through the material is one thing, but mastering the questions is something else entirely. I went through the entire CPAexcel program and spent the two weeks before my exam working MCQs and SIMs in the WTB…about 150 hours total study time.

I love Becker, I can't imagine having passed without it! It's so expensive though, I'm not sure I could chew off having to pay for it after having paid for another review course.

If the expense is not prohibitive for you, maybe it's something you could consider.

    Let me chime in…

I self studied for several years trying to use Wiley CPA books solely and failed miserably because I couldn't study for more than a week each time.

I finally got a little more serious and used Becker LIVE. In all honesty, Becker would be great for someone who may have just finished school and did well in school and remembered a lot of the material. For me it was a bad experience for several reasons.

    A) The teachers were good but I couldn't keep up with the class and study materials at the rate the class was made.
    B) The pressure of failing and not being able to take the class again free of charge made me sweat more bullets than actually studying for the exam because it was so expensive.
    C) The multiple choice questions were not similar to my exam experience
    D) The software was not as useful too me as CPAEXCEL

I received a very bad score using BECKER and it was hard to stay motivated.

A year later, I took CPAEXCEL…did all the questions in about 3 months and took another month and a half to do the Wiley questions. I took the exam and was blown away by my score…an 88.

My biggest regret is relying on my sheer intelligence to get straight A's in college and not actually internalizing the material but in the end CPAEXCEL's sample questions and practice tests nearly equaled my exam score. To be honest, my cpaexcel practice exam score average was 86 percent. So now I know that if I can do this for the other 3 I will pass and I have more hope.

The only thing is that CPAEXCEL can drag the process out a little longer, but in the end you will learn more, save money, and stay motivated longer because failing with BECKER is like getting hit with a brick on the face.

Oh yeah…and I used ninja notes too…on a different account..that I don't use to talk on the forum…in fact this is only my second post here ever.

Do you recommend the Yaeger cram for FAR?
