Can someone give a Becker specific 2010 vs 2011 REG change summary?

I am a Becker student… I am using 2010 books/software to study for the 2011 REG exam, since it’s changing the least.

I know REG loses some and gains some other subjects from other sections. I think the BEC Chapter 1 is now in REG… can someone say “no longer need to do REG R-3, but do need to do BEC B-1…” or something like that?

    Thanks

    FAR - Pass 10/2010
    AUD - Pass 11/2010
    REG - Pass 05/2011

Here, You can be the judge.

This is 2011 break down of each chapter, the lecture time, and questions per section (time in minutes). I'm using 2011 materials but I passed with 2009 back in 09, and from what I remember they've actually redone a lot of the actual videos too, I'm only on ch 3 so I won't advise if they've cut stuff, but if comparing to last years REG was the exam with the highest increase of hw questions.

ANC = no video on those topics, just self read.

    Hope it helps.

@audittaxman – Thank you SO much. I was wondering if anyone was in this section of the forum. I am in R-2 now, and soon getting to stuff that may have changed.

I am going to compare ths with my sections.

So it looks like the stuff that transferred from BEC is what you have as 4.5 thru 4.11 right? Have you done BEC? Does it compare favorably to B-1?

You have no idea how much this helps!!! Thanks a lot!

This helps me a lot too! As I haven't received my Becker 2011 materials, but I ordered the 2011 Wiley book for REG.

Becker has an 18 month window from date of activation. I have over 300 days left on my 2010 material. I ordered the Becker 2011 updated material. They will send the textbook for $20, CD, and course CD. Also, last year I purchased the Final Review which they are sending . If you purchased the materials last year you may want to look into updating. The cost is minor.

My Becker REG materials should be here next week. I also purchased the Wiley 2011 book. Started my REG studies last week.

    32CPA,

Yes in regards to BEC, I just passed it in October. For the most part, R4's modification's are essentially a cut and paste of B1. So if you've just studied for BEC, you'll probably breeze through the non-tax chunks of R4.

Also, I should note for anyone hasn't already ordered 2011 updates: They've made great improvements to the E-book that is on the software. Now the text shows all the notes, and highlighted areas from the lecture, in addition you can also make your own marks and notes directly on it. So if you already have an old book, its really not a bad way to go if you want to save on shipping or go green.

Finally, a question of my own. It took me a few rounds to pass Reg my first attempt, and I made hundreds of flashcards in the process, but in retrospect it may not have been as effective as I had imagined. Has anyone discovered the key to REG?

Thanks for sharing insights on changes for 2011 REG. I just received my wonderful score of a 72. YIKES! Needless to say, I will study now to take it in February.

I took REG(73) on 11/23 using Becker and I'm planning on re-taking it in early January. Does anyone have tips on how to “re-study” for an exam I recently studied for? It seems like a waste to go through all the lectures all over again. I only have about 12 free days to study, then I begin working (I'll study for the next week and a half at night) before I take REG again.

I also have the option of taking AUD in mid-January since this is my last 2 weeks before I begin working fulltime. I have only taken REG so far, but I figure it makes sense to get it out of the way and take it on 1/15 (Saturday after tax training ends). Any tips on REG vs. AUD or how to plan my studying?

Real estate is no longer part of the 2011 Becker program, as it has been removed from REG.
