Can I use my old Becker book for Audit? (2009)

    Hello,

I’m getting back on the horse. I failed the Audit exam in 2009 (scored 73) and have decided to give it another try. Is my 2009 Becker book for Audit completely outdated? I’m using Yaeger but I thought the extra questions and material from the becker book might help solidify concepts. Any thoughts?

i would not recommend it. The CSO has changed since 2009 and is set to change once again in July 2013. If you completed the Becker promise you can get the book & software for a nominal fee. If you didn't complete the becker promise you can purchase it again for half price(50% off).

when you factor the money spent to take the exam and the time spent studying for the exam why would you want to risk using prep material that is 3 years old? I want the absolute best chance to pass the exam every time. Whether you choose becker, wiley, ninja, etc. is a different discussion.

Completely agree with jsmithsae. I'm working off of 2011 but just bought Becker 2013 for AUD. You could try to supplement what you have with some of the newer updates but I think that would get confusing and too much to try and piece together. There are too many changes – especially if your taking it after July 1st. The thought of flunking by 5 points because of using old material – just not worth it.

CPA_Driven did you end up dropping that $1,000 after all?

Ha Ha Yes I did! – and then I went to work complaining that I just spent $1000 on a textbook that's less than an inch thick. πŸ™‚ I better pass.

I won't mention that you could have gotten a 10 point combo that has the updated notes, audio, flashcards, and practice software for $800 less πŸ™‚

Does anyone else recommend the 10 point combo for Audit over Becker 2013 Audit? I don't mind spending a $1,000 if I have to. I just want to pass.

There are significant differences from the 2009 materials and where we are today. Even the end of 2009 had significant revisions versus what was in the book. The 2009 materials will also not include any of the IFRS references that are testable.

I used Becker for all sections and it worked great. I can't speak to other materials. Just don't rely on 2009 materials.

@vartex…i actually recommend the two together. I have used Becker for all sections, but decided to supplement with NINJA 10pt Combo Lite for AUD. I love the audio from NINJA and listen to it every time I get in the car…probably been through it 10 times. The notes are nice and condensed and they provide a different view on the subject.

You can get samples of NINJA for free and Jeff has his no drama policy for returns. Honestly, when I first started listening to the audio I thought it was thin, yet after going through it time and time again I feel it helps drive home the concepts. I can pretty much recite it word for word, and find myself doing that when answering questions!

Like you, I just want to pass. I have never had a problem spending money to get results and have been pleased with my Becker purchase and have been equally pleased with my purchase of the NINJA materials. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice, so its up to you!

The 10 Point Combo is supplemental…She had 2011 materials from a full course already.

@Jeff – thanks for not mentioning that. πŸ™‚ I will most likely end up purchasing the 10 point combo too. I keep hearing great things about it and my knowledge on auditing boils down to a 5 week summer school class – I'll take all the help I can get.
