I was under the impression, after blowing over $3,000, that I could easily update my books and lectures when I purchased Becker. I just called, asking for updates books/dvds for Audit and BEC, and was told I could not do this… is this a joke? I am at work, so I didn’t want to spend too much time on the phone, but I plan on calling back and talking to a supervisor until I get a better explaination…

Anyone have any experience with this…. will they really refuse to send me new books/lectures? FYI my Becker license still has a year left on it before it expires.

I called about getting an updated version for REG and was told the same thing, that nothing significant had changed and they did not offer the upgrade for $20 as others have had. Apparently the $20 upgrade was either 1) only offered in the past and is not discontinued, or 2) only offered when there is a significant change between years.

The sales rep said for REG, 2011 and 2012 had no real changes.

I was going back and forth with my decision on whether or not to upgrade for REG since it's the one section that changes so much and decided to do it. It came out to $284.30 for the book and lectures exercising the “Becker Promise”.

I thought to myself the whole time I was in school that Becker sounds like a rip off. In the end I chose CPA Excel. It costs nearly a third of the price and they give you free updates until you pass. When I took FAR for the first time a few days ago, I felt very prepared and a majority of the practice questions were nearly identical to the actual test questions. Their focus on individual topics was fantastic. I think Becker spends more money on their marketing than they do producing a quality product.
