I took FAR last summer and after an unsucessful second attempt, I plowed through Audit, BEC and REG. Now back that I’m back on FAR, I’ve been trying to use the same formula that worked for me with the other exams: Don’t move on from any unit without getting at least 75% correct and then revisit the unit to push the percent to 85+.

My concern, however is that I’m really not doing as well with FAR and progresing much slower than I would like, and noticed they aren’t some of the details that I had studied in my last review course (NIU CPA Review,, great course if you don’t mind paper and pencil).

To those studying, or who had success with Becker and FAR, did you move on after a certain point, whats you’re strategy for going through the course?

Also I was thinking of getting Yeager’s Cram to Supplement Becker’s even though I have the Final Review, but would like to avoid the Home Study since I need the Becker software to keep organized and efficiently review.. anyone supplement Becker? ..Worth it?

Appreciate any advice & thanks in advance.

The way I did Becker was to do the DVD lecture and homework before I went to the live class. This way I was getting at least familiar with the material before I was in a live class with a warm body to ask anything that was foggy in my studies. I know this isn't an option for everyone as they don't always have the option of real CPAs in their live classes, but if you do I would try this out. With Becker only I took FAR, BEC, and AUD in the Oct Nov window of 2010 and passed all three with no score below an 80. I just did the same thing and too REG in 2011 and I am now done got the CPA exam done in about 6 months. The during final review I went back through the homework, hopefully scoring much higher than before, and restudying what needed to be restudied and did the supplemental questions during this time around. So really did all the homework twice and supplementals once.

Hey audittaxman I took FAR last october and passed on the first try only using Becker. I did not follow there suggested 2 lectures a week plan. Instead, I took extra time and gave myself a week per chapter. I would watch lectures, take notes and then do all hhk MCQ and Supplemental MCQ for that lecture. Every three weeks or third chapter I'd take progress tests/quizzes to see if I could still do the information from prior weeks. I think taking it slow like that helped me a lot because I did not feel pressured to study 5 -6 hours a day to fit 2 lectures into a week. Instead I took the time to understand each lecture and if one was short and easy I'd start on the next one.

    FAR - Passed
    BEC - Passed
    AUD - Passed
