I just submitted my application to take the CPA exam (to take FAR, AUD, BEC in the next 6 months) and am planning to take the first section in early May. I was able to get the 2011 edition of Becker for free for FAR so I was planning to start with that. However, I’ve been out of school for 6 years now (and wasn’t the most disciplined student when I was in school) so I’m a little hestitant that Becker will be too much of a high level review. I’ve heard great things about Yaeger, especially that the lectures start at the basics. I’m not sure if I should splurge for a second review course when I already have Becker or just go with Becker and then if I don’t see results for FAR go with Yaeger for the remaning sections. Any thoughts?

You cant go wrong with Becker. I wish I could personally thank Peter Olinto and Tim Gearty, as they are the reason I have been able to pass all the exams to date, on my first try. Becker is so good and I strongly believe Becker students have a big advantage compared to other candidates. But be careful, 90% of your success will come from the commitment you make and the quality study hours.you put into the CPA exam.

    Go with

    1) What works best for your learning style (watch demos)

    2) What works best for your budget

Plenty of people on here use both and pass.

Go with Yeager they cover more I got screwed with Becker when I went to the exam, several question I got wernt covered and I got a 73 on reg and my weak point was the material becker didnt cover, just ordered yeager today. BEC I got a 72 with becker and an 80 after Yeager cram. Also all my friends that used becker this window failed.

Thanks! I ended up using a mixture of Becker and Yaeger for FAR (only because, like I said, I had a free version of Becker that wasn't expiring until June). I liked the outline of the Becker book and the software more than Yaeger, but Becker definitely left me needing more and that's when I was glad I bought all four sections of the Yaeger as I was able to use that to supplement in the areas I was confused on and Yaeger definitely went into more detail on some confusing topics (and it seemed to work out well for me with my score).

I'm now studying for Audit (which I take Friday), I primarily used Yaeger but also had a 2010 version of the Becker book which I ended up referencing occasionally. I wasn't as pleased with Yaeger at first for Audit, but combining that with Jeff's Ninja notes and flashcard app I'm feeling pretty good about it. But I'll have to wait and see in September (that's depressing) how it works out for me. I think for the price differential (if that is a factor for you), Yaeger is the way to go and then you can afford to supplement it with Ninja notes, a cram course or Becker flashcards off of ebay.
