Becker vs. Roger

    Hello,

I have used the Becker program in the past but have not had any success with passing any section that I sat for. In my opinion I found the Becker lectures to be boring, the Mc ?s useful, while the simulation help was good for some parts (BEC) and horrible for others (AUD). Sometimes I felt that I was not motivated to study at all but after taking a break from the exams I am looking to really focus and get through them. I have heard great things about Roger CPA program and for half the price of Becker it seems worth it. I know Rogers videos are up tempo but I have heard people saying that the questions and study planner are a bit confusing. Can anyone please post which program they haved used and just give some basic information as I would like to make a decision on which program to buy so I can pass these tests and finally get my license.

    Thanks for the help.

    Haha, thanks Jeff 🙂

Yes, I used Roger CPA review and was extremely happy with it. Especially for FAR and AUD. His lectures are great. REG and BEC were pretty much self-explanatory…to me, anyway.

I know I could have used just Wiley books and still pass but it would have taken me longer. I modified my study plan based on my schedule. In my opinion, if you have a study plan and stick to it, you will pass with ANY materials. Gotta find the best study plan for you. Good luck!

I spent only 450 hrs studying for all sections with Roger.

What I also liked about Roger, is the fact that you can access his lectures online from any computer. Same with Wiley TB. So studying at work was easier 😉

Well, to be honest, I won scholarship back in 2011 and got Becker review for free but I was enrolled in MBA program and changed jobs so I didn't have time to study for the CPA exam back then. I did watch a few Becker lectures and found them very boring and pointless (highlight this, underline that, etc) so I decided to invest in Roger and his lectures were way more useful! I'll say it again – very useful for FAR! The other exams are more self-explanatory and easier to study for. So, if you were to purchase just one part, I'd get FAR. Everything else can be done with just Wiley TB if you can go through all the books first…

Keep in mind that Rogers course does not add an additional test bank like Becker does. I watched his demo and like yaeger I like the classroom style approach more than Beckers look at the digital book approach. I felt Roger on the demos went through the material to fast for my ADD and learning capabilities. I preferred Yaegers pace. Cindy sometimes go so slow I feel like she is talking to an idiot. I feel like she knows me:)

If boredom and a lack of motivation is a problem then changing review programs might not help. I have not heard anything about Roger supplement books, maybe tough kitty can give us feedback, but using the Wiley book as my main reading material is a nightmare for me. Its a combination of the color paper with the compactness of it all. If your an auditory learner Roger might do it for you but if your a visual learner you may just want to stick with Becker.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

thanks for the response, i think i will stick with Becker one more time. I really do think Simulations were what killed me on the exam. At the end of the day the questions in both test bank will be pretty simliar.

Study Monk, what additional test bank? Roger comes with Wiley Test Bank. My friend who used Becker and failed AUD twice, decided to switch to WTB and said that these questions were way more challenging.

As you said, reading Wiley books is a pain. That's exactly why Roger lectures are helpfulness explaining things. I am visual and that's exactly why I took notes! Highlighting half of the book with Becker for $3,000 doesn't translate to learning as far as I am concerned….
