I received a phone called today about Lambers CPA review course…I have never heard of them until today…but now I am interested and torn on which course to use. Does anyone have an opinion on which they liked and didn’t like? I need more of a guided study, rather than a self study. I can’t do the read and do questions approach. I have been doing that with Wiley and it has FAILED me 3 times now…I need to change. The price difference is pretty huge and how Lambers is able to upgrade your software, year in and year out would be a huge benefit too [just in case I wasn’t successful]. With Becker, I loose access to the software after a year, and would have to pay again to gain access again.

Thank you, Jeff. I have checked out their site a lot between their phone call and now. : ) I really wanted input from others who have taken the courses and who might have similar learning styles as I. I just am tired of studying for 6+ hours a day and feeling like I am still at square one by the end of the night. To me, it feels like from October until now all that this has been is a waste of time, energy, and money…I don't feel like I have learned gained anything since I graduated from college in May of 2009. I just need a little more guided study material and I am hoping that with pre-recorded lectures that will give me a different feel for the material, instead of me reading it to myself, which it takes me awhile to read through the material or even comprehend what I am even reading.

Reading a book and doing the questions is the LEAST EFFECTIVE way to study. I too had the same problem as you. However, unlike most of you, I was able to spend $15,000 to find the answer.

Like you, I needed a teacher. The best teachers are Dr. Yaeger and Cindy Simpson from Yaeger, Bob Monette from Bisk Hot Spots and Garland from Lambers.

Look at each exam separately and figure out the best teachers for each exam. Do NOT buy an entire course for all 4 exams at one time from any company! This is my list of the best teachers for each exam:

FAR #1 Yaeger (Dr. Yaeger and Cindy), #2 Becker

REG #1 Yaeger (Dr. Yaeger), #2 Bisk Hot Spots on taxes by Bob Monette

    BEC #1 Yaeger (Cindy Simpson)

AUD #1 Becker, #2 Lambers (Garland)

I know that most people will not accept what I have posted. However, I hope that it is of some help to you. If you have any questions, ask.

    Thanks!

@PASSED: I think that finding the best study resources for each section individually is the way to go! Thanks for your suggestions in that regard.

    M.Acc. conferred (9/12)
    B - TBD
    A - Scheduled (8/13)
    R - Failed (5/13)

@jrncpa2b — I was wondering how your studying is going with using Lambers? I am taking FAR next Friday and I can't seem to find research questions within the Lambers test bank software, do you happen to know if they provide them? Do you know if they have simulations that we can do within the software, very similar to what we will have on the exam? I printed out the paper simulations, but I much rather get the computer feel for it rather than writing it all out on paper.

    Thank you!

Hi! I haven't been studying much lately in all honesty. I failed my first section and then work has gotten so busy that I have put off retaking BEC until January. I plan on taking REG after BEC and then FAR and AUD. So I haven't reviewed the FAR dvd yet. But I would think there would be simulations in the test bank cd. Did you get that? BEC had sims so I would think that FAR would most definitely have them. I hope you do great next Friday..please let me know if you felt prepared after taking the exam.

Sorry about failing your first section. I really have a hard time with getting the fail notices in the mail. I just need one pass to keep me motivated. I have been studying for over a year and I have taken FAR, REG [twice], BEC [twice]….and haven't been successful thus far. UGH, it is so discouraging….but I HEAR it will all be worth it once I get the CPA at the end of my name…right now, I am not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

When you say that BEC had simulations, was it wrapped into the test bank software or did you have to do it by hand?

They are a part of the test bank. Also, I used Wiley test bank and it has simulations as well.

I hope we are both successful in 2012! Good luck to you and I hope Lambers gives you better results.

    Hello to everybody,

I am just gathering the information about the possible CPA review courses and found this great forum!!

I have a question about the flashcards with Kaplan, please, if somebody could clarify.

It was mentioned here (THANKS ALOT!!)) that Kaplan also has audio to go with the flashcards.

Does it mean that the audio CDs that they sell go exactly as the text goes on the flashcards? (That the best way for me to memorize the content of texts as I figured..))

    Thank you in advance.

An effective audio course must be created specifically with audio learning in mind…you have to create the visual for them and when necessary, slow down and repeat things you wouldn't normally in a visual presentation…otherwise the listener will be lost.

    Thank you Jeff,

I hope that somebody knows about Kaplan audio+cards combination .. I have called to their customer service and as appears they do not know about this at all..
