I’m about to register for another cpa review class. I’m borrowing money for it so I don’t want to necessarily spend the most amount of money. I’ve taken Becker and here are my observations.

    – It’s best if you know the material to a degree already

    – If you don’t know the material, it could actually confuse you more

    – I enjoy the streamlined process but I hate reading, I’d rather read problem sollutions…

    – Taskmaster is really good for this because you can see the answers right away…

    Kaplan:

    – very thorough….multiple angles for learning, slide and question based

    – only thing I hated about kaplan was I couldn’t see the answers right away which kind of kills my motivation but I could learn to work through this. I did like how the kaplan slides and teachers were very effective in teaching, and kaplan is so thorough and very affordable for what you get – slides, questions, simulations, audio, flashcards, and a beast of a book

    – very little reading needed but this could be a problem if you don’t want to watch the slides as reading the kaplan book is like reading an encyclopedia

    Wiley depaul university review

    – this is the other option for the same price as Wiley that I’m considering…self explanatory, for additional money I could get a discount on the audio and books from Wiley and the software comes free…

So here are my options…please just throw some cents in if you can. I really appreciate any help at all…..In my gut I feel like Kaplan would be best if I had the willpower to stick through it, and I may actually use an i pad since its all internet based and doesn’t require a CD ROM….but Becker is streamlined….in an ideal world, I would do both back to back over a fourth month period since my accounting skills in college were never really developed.

What my sollution now at the moment is to use Kaplan with wiley on my own….because the depaul university lacks audio tapes which I feel would help me tremendously….and becker is 1,000 something dollars but i’m not interested in review, i also need to learn….

I know Yeager is another option but I’ve never used it before and I know there are some others ones too….if any of these came with effective audio tapes please let me know….

Thanks you…for reading….my amorphous blob of a request for help.

I'm using Becker right now and here's my feedback:

To address your comments/concerns about Becker:

    You said:

“i'm not interested in review, i also need to learn….”

Me too! And, this is the exact reason that I was initially disappointed when I received my Becker program, but also the same reason that I LOVE them now.

I'm actually LEARNING with Becker. Not just reviewing. This is how/why….

“- It's best if you know the material to a degree already

    – If you don't know the material, it could actually confuse you more”

When I first started with Becker, I agreed with your comments. I felt they went too fast and didn't cover the material in enough detail for me to understand. I started thinking that I had bought the wrong program.

However, once I realized that Becker offers email academic support, I literally fell in love with the program. You can email questions to their support department and get a response in less than 48 hours – often much sooner. It is truly the only way I am getting through the information and actually learning it.

The support I get feels like a private tutor because you can ask unlimited amount of questions and get a quick response.

I was also worried about email support because it can be challenging to understand something through an email (and I had negative experience with Gleim's EA email support program in the past).

But, so far, Becker's support has worked very well. The responses I get are helping me to learn the material in detail.

And if their first response to your question still leaves you confused, you can respond again and ask for more explanation.

Other programs either severely limit the amount of support they offer, or don't offer any at all.

    Regarding your comment:

“- I enjoy the streamlined process but I hate reading, I'd rather read problem solutions…

    – Taskmaster is really good for this because you can see the answers right away…”

Me too! I strongly agree with this. The majority of my questions come from getting the MCQ's wrong. So, if I don't understand why, I email Becker and reference the specific MCQ that is confusing me. It wouldn't help me if I had to do several questions in a row and not be able to evaluate each one individually based on what I got right or wrong.

So, although I have not used other programs, so cannot compare Becker to anything else, AND, I have not taken any exams yet, so can't consider myself a success story, I believe that Becker is worth the price strictly because they are available to answer my one million questions about the material.

Also, I have the understanding that different Becker representatives will respond to you based on which section you're studying. I'm studying FAR, so don't have experience with Becker's reps who respond to questions from the other sections, but the FAR reps have been amazing. I'm hoping and assuming that I will love the support I get for the other sections as well.

I promise, I don't work for Becker, but at this point, considering how much I've learned specifically from their email support department, I could be a walking commercial for the company. Hope that translates to passing scores on my exams!
