calicpaParticipantDoes anyone feel like cpaexcel takes a long time to go through the material?
For cpaexcel you have to watch the lecture then read the book. Becker covers the book with you during the lecture, so doe Becker take considerably less time to study with?
BEC - 84, 4/6/13
AUD - 77, 5/28/13
REG - 83, 4/12/14
FAR - 83, 10/3/13Ethics - 90% 4/24/13

Mjs157MemberHello everyone, since the topic seems to cover FAR and CPAexcel I'd like to share what I did with CPAexcel to pass.
I read the book and watched the videos and they were a little longer than they needed to be, and I wrote down the important material. I did not spend a lot of time on the in-text problems unless I did not understand the corresponding text. I took the quizzes and I did not take the diagnostic exam until my final review. Hand-writing the notes was painful, but I think it was worth it as I used the same approach for AUD and I did fairly well as well.
I left myself 5 days before the last chapter and my exam date. I would suggest 7. This allows for you to take a day or two off, and play catch up on other days and leave ample time to review.
Final Review – go through each diagnostic test and only use your notes if it is on the tip of your tongue. Write down every question you guessed on, and got wrong along with the reasoning for the correct answer. Review the source material for problematic areas and relax! You have to let the information sit and see if you can retain it the following day.
Practice Exam- good luck, my two practice exams were 2 points lower than my actual score for AUD & FAR. Similar to the final review: write down everything you got wrong or guessed on and review the source material.
Test day – review the important concepts the morning of, this way you'll be confident heading into the exam. Spend a few hours on test day doing nothing related to the exam, a B-movie, video game, whatever.

AnonymousInactiveI mentioned this in another post but based on experience I think it's really important to ask yourself whether you learn better from reading vs. watching lectures. Doing both in CPAexcel would take an astronomical amount of time, even to the point where it may actually hurt your score because you're moving too slowly through the material. I've found the CPAexcel books are EXCELLENT for the 3 sections I've taken. The lectures, on the other hand, are very hit or miss. I very much consider this a text-based course, whereas Becker is more lecture-focused.

tough_kittyMember@calicpa – you go through everything just once and then you have only 2 weeks for review?? Or is it 45 days including the time you spend memorizing the material? What's your study time total?
I spent about 150 hours studying for FAR – Roger lectures, textbook, taking notes, practicing about 1,500 MCQs 2-3 times and I did a few sims. Passed with an 81. Thought the score was pretty low considering how much I knew but about 10% of material tested wasn't included in my textbooks.
FAR: 81 (May 2013)
BEC: 81 (July 2013)
REG: 83 (August 2013)
AUD: 82 (November 2013)

AnonymousInactive@RandomAlt – yeah all I did was read the text once (not recommended, I read REG and BEC twice) and answered the past exam questions. I also took about 30 pages of handwritten notes. I didn't intend to cram in to such a short period of time, just got way of schedule for the summer. I also had Wiley TB which was a huge help. 4 days for final review, took it a few weeks ago and passed. I don't start work till October though, this was 2.5 weeks of intense studying to get through CPAexcel then the 4 days of review.
