    Hey guys,

Has anyone out there taken BEC already and used Becker to study? My question for you is in regards to the calculations, how would you say the actual exam calcs compare to the questions Becker is asking? I ask because I feel like I am developing an good understanding of the calculations, but when it comes to applying them in some of these outrageous questions Becker throws at you, I do pretty poorly on the homework sometimes. However, I can generally answer the more straightforward calculation questions correctly and fully understand it. I just don’t want to waste time getting hung up trying to figure out these calculations from every which-way if I’m not going to be tested on such a level.

I didn't get any of the outlandish calculations that Becker through at me. I did get some hard ones, but no “weird” ones…not that I noticed anyway. Practice them, but don't spin your wheels. Know the basics cold though. I remember some of the Becker practice questions making me think how the heck am I supposed to know this? No where in the Becker books. Not intuitive or common sense, literally from thin air. Don't stress those types of questions. The majority of questions will NOT be like that. Can one come up? Sure. But it won't make or break you if you know the basics.

FYI I got an 86 and felt like I was failing the whole time.

@ cb6185 That is probably the most comforting news i have heard in a while. Chapter 2 and 3 of Beckers has outlandish calculations that by the time im done reading the question and attempting to solve the 3 or 4 part calculation their could be 4 minutes gone. I assume their will be a reasonable calculation questions and Beckers just tries to way over prepare you with the huge kitchen sink comprehensive problems.

I ditched Becker for NINJA MCQs and did much better. The performance analysis for $47 is the best tool ever created for the CPA exams. Just my opinion. 😉

@stilgoin I am definitely going to get NINJA MCQs for BEC, I think after I go through all of the Becker material I will use it as a review tool. I bought it for my AUD retake, haven't gotten my score back yet, but loved the adaptive learning feature.

I like that Becker goes over the top with the calculation questions, because come exam day those types of questions become a breeze. However, with only about 6 weeks of studying while working full time, I just don't have the time to spend literally extra hours a day trying to master them inside and out. I gotta get through this material before Feb 29, not sure if thats gonna happen doing Becker's 12-step calculations every day lol

Yea B2 was pretty rough in regards to the calculations. I was glad to read the thread above. I'm going to try and finish B5 and B6 this week which will leave two weeks for review. Whats the best way to spend the last two weeks? Planning on outlining the chapters and MCQ like crazy.
