I am currently studying for FAR and have completed 2 Becker lectures + MCQs relating to those lectures. I know it’s early, but I wanted to gauge my performance because I have heard varying things about how % correct on Becker MCQs compares to actual CPA exam scores. Most people have told me if you’re scoring in the high 60’s to low 70’s on Becker MCQs, then that is decent and generally provides good results on test day.

After completing MCQs on the 2 lectures I’m sitting at roughly a 75-76% % correct (on first attempt). Should I be content with this? I don’t want to overkill but I also don’t want to miss by a couple points on the actual exam and wonder “what if.”

If anyone has used Becker and can share what a decent % correct (again, on first attempt) is, that would be extremely helpful so I can gauge my performance. Thanks.

No comment on FAR specifically but I think the general consensus is that you should attempt to know everything since each test is different. Getting 70% on mcqs only tells you you're getting the 70% you know and that's no guarantee that it's what you will be tested on. I've seen many post that the actul exam scores are higher than Becker and it's up to you whether you want to take that bet. Just based on my experience.

    R - 74;88
    A - 84
    B - 74;89
    F - no study = 67; May 15 = 87 & done

Generally I have heard (and have had the experience) that exam scores are generally higher than the Becker practice final exams. Not sure about the regular MCQ's. Your first scores are good, but the problem is, can you remember the stuff in chapter 1 by the time you get to chapter 6 or 8 or 10? The biggest challenge is remembering all of this information on one day! Try to keep doing progress tests as you go through the chapters to help you retain as much as possible until the end. I was getting in the 70's on my final exams and got a 92 on FAR. But it all depends on the test you get and whether it focuses more on the stuff you are good at or the stuff you are not so solid on.

    FAR - 92 (4/27/12)
    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
    BEC - 92 (8/30/12)
    REG - 91 (11/12/12)

When I do MCs the first time, I usually score in the 60s. When doing the Becker progress tests the last week before the exam, I want to score in the high 80s. I only took the Becker Final Exam for BEC, but I remember those questions were harder and my score was low 70s. So all in all, your first attempts don't really matter, but progress tests with questions from all topics were a good indication of my actual score.

    BEC - 2/25/12 - 90
    FAR - 5/18/12 - 87
    AUD - 8/4/12 - 94
    REG - 11/27/12 - 91 - done!

I plan on doing progress tests for each chapter. However, it lets me choose how many questions I want to do in those progress tests. Is 30 a solid choice? Maybe to simulate actual exam-type timing for 1 testlet?

I just want to become another statistic in Becker's record book, nothing more! Why are they letting me choose the # of questions? Aren't they the experts?!
