Becker REG question

    I just started studying 3 days ago on REG using Becker. I’ve been on the forums for at least a year reading about people’s studying methods, and I settled on using the NINJA method.

    I put in a solid 15 hours already, no distractions, and finished up REG 1. I spent 12 hours alone watching the video lectures, highlighting and handwriting notes. I was feeling pretty decent on the material until I got to the homework questions. I did all the questions for the R1 lecture, and scored somewhere in the 60’s on nearly each of them. It feels rather disheartening.

    I plan on covering about 2 chapters per week, as I am taking the exam on July 3. I am leaving myself 2-3 weeks of review before the exam.

    My question, since I’m not happy with my multiple choice performance, Could anyone share with me if they think that I should continue on my way to the next chapter, or if I should spend more time on Chapter 1?

    I’m putting in tremendous time and effort while working 3 days a week, stopping at nothing to pass this exam.

    @Abbzolute,

    1. It helps to go over questions initially missed and write correct answers in a notebook (designate separate notebook which will be keep track of stuff that had not clicked initially).

    2. Complete Sims (which will force you to take a look at materials from a different angles), write down all missed there.

    3. Evaluate which areas you keep missing, read those sections in the textbook and make flashcards.

    4. And, finally, take a MCQ again and see how much you'll come along!

    Let me reassure you, toward the end of the review you will look thru that notebook and will chuckle at the things that were written initially b/c these things will no longer be a problem since extra time had been spent on them. I found it very helpful to do this before moving on to a next chapter. Although I have not obviously taken REG yet and don't have a clue of how it is going to benefit me at the end, I've used same strategy successfully for the previous exams.

    I agree with Seattle, but wanted to add one thing I wasn't sure if you were doing. If you aren't, make sure to mark the questions you are missing. You can always unmark them later, but this will give you the opportunity to easily find the ones that gave you trouble.

    A big part of my final review is to redo all the ones I marked.

    @AnnaNutha, I didn't mark any b/c Becker does mark them for you as “incorrect/missed” ones and gives on option to go over those exclusively.

    I typically score in the 60%'s my first time through the MCQ on any given section. Some are better, and some are even worse. What's important is to really understand why you missed the ones you did. It helps you understand the concepts that you didn't catch, or were covered quickly in the lectures. The MCQ's build on the lecture, and the SIMS build on the MCQ's.

    Make sure you understand why you got the question wrong or right. That is the key. Try not to worry about how many you get wrong/right initially. It all comes together in the end.
