I am planning to take FAR at the end of February 2012. I am going back and forth debating on which CPA review set I should buy. I’m thinking Becker or Yaeger. If anyone can give me their input as to the pros/cons of both and maybe those of you that have used both, which one do you prefer and why. Thanks!

    Hi I have Becker,

    Pros:

prepare me well for most of the topic except NFP and governmental accounting.

    Cons:

    NFP and governmental accounting.

    Too expensive.

Would Wiley test bank be sufficient for those aspects?

I used Yaeger and thought it prepared me very well. I also used the Wiley testbank for extra questions (I believe that I did all of them).

    BEC - 60, 71, 79
    AUD - 73, 66, 87!!!!! Yes! I am done!
    REG - 74, 76
    FAR - 75

Yaeger Review for all except my last AUD score (Roger)!

I have only used Yaeger but have friends who are using Becker.

It seems like the main difference (besides price) is that Becker focuses more on mnemonics to memorize topics while Yaeger is more geared toward understanding why something is done the way it is. So the answer to which is best probably depends on which method fits your learning style.

Both should have demos available if you want to see what each is like

I have gathered based on what I've read on these forums that Becker is more of a review course and Yaeger is more of a teaching course. I am using Yaeger and feel it has prepared me well for FAR which I take next week. I have been out of school for 10 years, out of the work force for 7 and only have a Bachelor's degree, so some of these topics on the exam I have never even seen before and the ones I have seen before, I had mostly forgotten. Yaeger assumes you have a very basic knowledge of accounting and takes it from there. I learn better by listening to someone else explain a topic, and Cindy at Yaeger is a great teacher. Another important factor for me was cost because I am paying for it out of my own pocket.

There are some people on this forum who have used different review courses for different sections. It ends up being cheaper to buy all 4 sections at once, but it may be more beneficial in the long run to purchase each topic separately. I have seen several posts on here about people being pleased with the Roger review course, so you may want to look into that one as well.
