    Becker Question –

I always do these questions. I’m sure everyone else does. The thing is, they take up a lot of time right when a chapter is about to be finished. I’m doing almost 100 right now and it’s taking forever. I may not finish them and might be a little behind schedule. Is it a good idea to just skip them since they’re “optional”?

    AUD: 2/28/2013 - 86
    FAR: 10/19/2013 - 83
    REG: 1/6/2014 - 80
    BEC: 2/27/2014 - 81

If you have created a set schedule in regards to your cpa studies, and these are setting you back, move forward. Revisit these questions during your “review” week if you like.

    FAR- 73, 10/07/2013
    REG- 8/31/2013
    AUD- TBD
    BEC- TBD

Main: Becker Self-Study 2013. Supplements: Ninja / Wiley TB / CPAExcel (Bought before I received an offer).

What section are you on? I thought for aud and far they were good but some of the ones in bec are ridiculous.

@Jaimcpa – I may consider that, thanks. Actually, for the schedule I'm on, there may not be a choice.

@cpa runner – FAR. The ones in AUD and FAR are good but for FAR, with some questions taking 5+ minutes (for me), the limited time I have just flies by.

    AUD: 2/28/2013 - 86
    FAR: 10/19/2013 - 83
    REG: 1/6/2014 - 80
    BEC: 2/27/2014 - 81

I just finished my initial pass through of FAR and man the regular + optional took a very long time especially when you delve into consolidations and pensions/leases( 5 min +). I just started REG and breezed through REG1 & REG2. I would have to agree with the previous posters though. If you can fit them into your schedule more questions worked will undoubtedly lead to a better score.

@dutkas – That's true. I miscalculated how much time getting thru this material would take. But there's no benefit in skipping it. Even though I may have to reschedule, I'm not skipping these questions.

    AUD: 2/28/2013 - 86
    FAR: 10/19/2013 - 83
    REG: 1/6/2014 - 80

I'm using the 2012 Becker material and attended the live classes last year. Our instructor recommended that we NOT complete the optional questions because they were not useful. He said they were obvious poor questions tossed from the exam and, in some cases, did not reflect the correct answer. Example: you're studying REG like-kind exchanges, you think you've mastered the concept, then you work some optional questions and get confused by the ridiculous depth of the question OR the wrong answer. Apparently, these optional questions will pop up in the progress tests anyway. Conclusion: you're better off spending the time working progress tests to get a “real” exam experience. His suggestions helped me to save time studying (efficiency) and I have passed 3 parts of the exam so far without using them.

    Hope that helps!

    FAR 02/26/13 78 [05/25/12 67]
    AUD 07/07/12 85
    REG 05/28/13 80 [08/25/12 72]
    BEC 11/26/12 81

I rarely did any optional question in Becker. I skipped them entirely during first run through the material. I would only work on the optional questions if I needed more practice in a particular section.

The Becker supplemental questions were a complete waste of time and energy. I never looked at them. However, as the name suggests, take the time to ace the pass master questions.

Interesting. I always thought they're good because they're some extra twists in the optional questions. But it seems like they are a waste of time based on these posts (esp. SonjaBlue). I do most of these but might skip them on the 2nd round of mcqs and use the time to do more Wiley mcqs.

Anyone else with an opinion on these?

    R - 74;88
    A - 84
    B - 74;89
    F - no study = 67; May 15 = 87 & done

I'm with you Tina. I do them the first time and skip them the second time through.
