On my first Becker lecture. For those who have done it, what is your honest opinion on the lectures? We’re they a waste of time or did you learn valuable stuff? So far they seem like a waste of time when it goes through everything so fast and basically tells you what to circle/focus on, but that stuff is already highlighted and written in the online book.
I’m thinking an better option is to take the 3-4 hours of lecture time to read the online book and take notes…and then dive into the homework problems. Maybe watch the sections of the lecture if I am not understanding something.
Since it’s my first exam I am scared to skip the lectures if I need them, but I also have limited time.

For me the becker lectures help. For others it didn't. I think you should try one with the lecture and try a section without. See what works best for you and which makes you understand the concepts better. For me listening to the lectures helps solidify my understanding because many times they explain concepts to you or give enhanced information so you can truly understand. Sometimes i will read the lectures and then not understand so i would go to the lecture. Everyone is different though. Here is my process for getting through a section:

    Every four pages:
    1. Go through the lecture highlight take notes in margins on whatever they tell me to.
    2. Read those four pages in depth. Take thorough notes emphasizing those highlighted/underline portions

    Repeat

It depends who's giving the lecture. If its Tim Geary, you're screwed.

It depends what you prefer. For me, I watched lectures one to two times because it keeps me engaged with the materials because when I read it by myself, I would spend more time & understand less! I don't know if that's because english is my second language (plus I learned it in later age) or I am generally a visual learner. Also, Taking notes with their lectures helps you also to memorize things since this test is heavily testing you in memorization so the more you read it hear it write it, the more chances that you'll remember it.

Like someone said above, if it's Tim, you're screwed. He just reads the text with no explanations… you can do that on your own. All the other ones are great.

I think Peter O. should do all of them-he was the only one I liked, everyone else just drones on….

I had a REALLY hard time sitting through the lectures and could typically only listen to 1.5 hours or so at a time. I'm VERY glad I took the in class (you will still use lectures), because it forces you to stay on track. I found some lecturers were NOTABLY better than others…the guy I had the most was my least favorite. Becker lectures are very variable both live and video.
