Garbage is pretty harsh. I do agree. Overpriced would probably be more accurate.
AUD - Passed:)
FAR - Passed:)
REG - Retake TBD
BEC - Missed by 3 points Retake TBDDecember 11, 2011 at 9:19 pm #338597porschifyMemberI used Becker two years ago, took REG then BEC (73, 66 respectively) and got frustrated then gave up. I personally dont think that using a review course's MCQ along with the content of the course is sufficient enough. I think using the content of one course with the MCQ's of another (such as the Wiley test bank) is the way to go becuase then you know that the content was not written for the MCQ's specifically. If your able to score consistently across any maker of question then you truly understand the concepts. Only time will tell if this method works as I am trying this method now, and sitting for REG in Jan.
REG- 81
BEC- 72,76
AUD- 67,88
FAR- 78Done!
December 12, 2011 at 12:34 am #338598AnonymousInactiveSome people, including me, are posting their Performance Reports and from what I'm seeing, if you scored weaker on either the MCQs or Sims, you get a failing grade. I saw a few people who got Stronger on the MCQs and Weaker on Sims and got 74s. It seems to me that the AICPA wants us to do well on both in order to pass. This is what sucks about the new format. On the old format, Sims didn't really matter much because they were only 30 points, 10 of which counted towards the WCs which were an easy 10 points. The Research questions were like 1 point each, so the Sims really only used to be 18 points. Now, they're a whopping 40 points. Now, I know the reason for the lower passing rate this year. It's the Sims, for sure!
December 12, 2011 at 1:04 am #338599goodluck2everyoneMemberYes, this new format is terrible. Somehow I managed a comparable on the REG sims but weaker on MCQ 🙁 I dont think I can pull off a comparable on SIMs again because I was guessing my way through and was lucky I guess (but not lucky enough to pass)
I felt I did OKAY on the audit SIMs but got a weaker on that.

FAR- -- 75 🙂December 12, 2011 at 2:32 am #338600skippycpaMemberThanks CPAMan for your post. I at least have a little more hope now that I can pass FARS in Jan 2012. I'm already thinking of having to drop out and do a masters degree instead if I don't pass FARS a 2nd time. I just don't have the patience like these other guys to retake these things over and over again. I don't believe in luck but best wishes to everyone in 2012.
December 12, 2011 at 2:37 am #338601MinimortyParticipantI think the new format of the exam is appropriate. It not only tests your ability to memorize certain formulas and regurgitate information into correct multiple choice answers, but it also demands that you apply those concepts into real world scenarios. The application of the information studied is much more important that just being able to choose the right answer out of the four provided.
December 12, 2011 at 2:59 am #338602AnonymousInactive@skippycpa- I don't have the patience either. As you can see in my signature, I actually gave up when I got my 61 in FAR, but then in the beginning of this year, I decided to give it another shot and I got an 89. So, since I passed and now have until Dec 2012 to pass the remaining 3 part, I have to keep going. But trust me, if I end up losing my FAR and AUD credits, you can bet your life that I'm washing my hands on this whole thing. No way am I going to go that far and retake tests I've worked my butt off to pass. I'll take REG four more times if that's what it takes to pass before Dec 2012, but once my credits expire, that is it!!!
December 12, 2011 at 3:07 am #338603RedRage00MemberBecker isn't garbage. It is just waaaaay overpriced and they have the best marketing to bring people in. If your job is paying for it then no big deal. I've passed my first 3 exams using just the Wiley book and online test bank with a ton of studying. I hope it gets me by AUD. I want this whole thing to be over already!

I passed BEC kindda “easy;” barely studied, and I got 78 on my first attempt (thanks to Becker!)
I had to retake AUD 3x though. I practiced and got 90-100%, but still did not pass 3x – if I think it through, I did not do all things that they said, and my study time was scatterred. Remember Tim said that we need to write our notes, Peter said we need re-write our notes. Repetition… no fun, no friends, and date them on Friday & Saturday night.
Of course I did not do that, and I failed AUD 3x until I finally made up my mind and lost all my friends (well 90% of them), and passed it after I had less fun.
Next, I studied REG, I wrote my notes, re-wrote my notes, did all the MCQ 2x, did all the simulations, did the 2 final reviews, studied Becker Final Cram, reviewed all the book-marks, and reviewed flashcards 8 hrs before the exam. I felt I did well, cause my first testlet was moderate, 2nd was harder, and 3rd was hardest; did the simulations and felt 80% confidence, and I found my research. What else, right? WRONG!! I got 74, strong in MCQ, weak in simulations.
The moral of the story is, just study harder and PRAY so that our brain will function well and do not fall to their tricks during the exam time.
For me, if my little brain could not retain by reviewing 2x, then I need to review 4x to be enough. If I still fail, then 8x next time 😉
HAPPY HOLIDAY!!! I should take a break and gather my thoughts again next year 😀
December 12, 2011 at 4:00 pm #338605ggwsbiMemberI used only Becker for all parts. MCs given on BEC exam were nothing similar to MCs homework on Becker. I remember walking out of the test center thinking about re-reviewing BEC study material again, that sucks…but I passed. For AUD, I worked on Becker MCs twice and there were lots of similar questions on the exam; I finished MCs testlets in 2 hours. Becker's REG and FAR were ok. Having to retake both REG and FAR and study the test prep material twice, it is indifferent no matter which one you use (Becker, Yeager, Wiley…etc) if you have good grasp of the concept.
BEC 11/10 - 77
REG 11/10 - 66, 8/11 - 84
AUD 4/11 - 86
FAR 4/11 - 67, 11/11 - 83December 12, 2011 at 7:38 pm #338606goodluck2everyoneMemberDecember 12, 2011 at 7:41 pm #338607MinimortyParticipantYeah, I cant believe I dropped a couple grand on the Becker materials. All I have to show for it are these four passing scores. lmao.
December 12, 2011 at 7:47 pm #338608goodluck2everyoneMembercongratulations, you wasted a couple grand
all you needed to pass was $130 for the 4 wiley books
but its understandable if you need the whole review course. Some people can't pass otherwise, you obviously fall into that category
BEC- 80
REG- 68, 71, July
AUD- 61 , 84
FAR- -- 75 🙂December 12, 2011 at 7:57 pm #338609MinimortyParticipantlol. And what category do you fit into? You had the whole review course, still couldnt pass, and decided to blame in on everything and anyone from the review course to the AICPA curve to the testing window. You seem to have everything figured out. Good luck on your journey.
December 12, 2011 at 8:00 pm #338610goodluck2everyoneMemberwhat makes you think I had whole review course? I only had the becker books in pdf form
wrong again morty
