My study method is practically the same and in fact, I'm actually working my butt off a lot more in REG, yet the score difference looks like I lost my mojo or something. I have no idea how I scored an 89 and 87 in FAR and AUD. There were TONS of MCQs on Testlets 2 and 3 on FAR that I was lost on (probably got only half right, if not less) and on my AUD exam, I was guessing on ALL of my Sims. If I passed FAR and AUD in the high 70s, then maybe I can understand this grading process. But I have no idea why I was able to kick butt on those tests yet score so low on REG. I took FAR and AUD early last year, so maybe it is indeed harder to pass in the last window. I shall find out next window when I retake. But I'm not taking any chances. I'm studying harder this time around. I only have 4 more chances to take this test and pass or else, I lose my FAR and AUD credit. I do not want that to happen.

He told you what I'm sure you didn't want to hear, but he told you the truth. I'm not here to bash you, but the reality is that you overlied on the study materials and you're blaming Becker because you were doing well on the MCQs but you clearly didn't understand the concepts because you bombed the exam. I'm sure you WILL pass next time around, but it won't be because you've supplemented with Wiley, it will be because you fully understand the concepts that are being tested instead of recognizing the fact patterns that appear in the MCQs. This thread is a paradigm of what is wrong with a lot of people in this country today (see “Occupy” protestors); when things suck in life, no one wants to look in the mirror. I'm sure you're a very bright person, and you probably got straight A's in college, but maybe Becker just isn't your style; that certainly doesn't mean it's garbage. I sincerely do hope you pass next time around. Good luck.

Anyways, what I believe is true for these exams is that sometimes it takes a fail to realize how much better prepared you need to be. You may only think you know.
I'm sure all of the books are good; the problem is that the exam is different.
December 10, 2011 at 9:57 pm #338586mla1169ParticipantName calling isn't necessary. It's awful to have to retake an exam, but tantrums aren't going to add points to your score. It's been days, stop wallowing, brush yourself off and charge forward in your studies.
Mini is very helpful and has paid his dues. He knows what he's talking about even if you disagree.
FAR- 77
AUD -49, 71, 84
REG -56,75!
BEC -75Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.
December 10, 2011 at 10:02 pm #338587KJCPAwannabeMemberI think Becker is great, they told me exactly what I needed to know for my exam, nothing more, nothing less. Wiley gives you too much and it becomes very tedious to read after a short period of time. Hard to memorize too.
AUD - 11/16/2011 - 86
REG - 1/12/2012 - 77
BEC - 2/29/2012 - 90
FAR - 11/29/2012 - 85December 10, 2011 at 11:30 pm #338588MinimortyParticipant@hawk – lol! Thank you for the vote of confidence. I am a guy and I'm 28, just fyi.
@baseball and @mIa – Thanks for having my back, as always.
December 10, 2011 at 11:43 pm #338589round1ParticipantDidn't have the time to read every comment; imo, Becker is useful if you have enouth self-discipline. That's it – YOU are responsible for the quality of your preparation. Becker MCQ were 95% accurate for the “real” thing in Aud, 85% – for Bec, 70% – For Far and only 50% to 55% – for Reg. But I wouldn't have a chance of passing this exam without some kind of additional training, be it Becker, Wiley, Glaim etc. By chance, I've chosen Becker and it worked for me.
ps. Don't like Becker for one reason only: it's software expires after a while… It's not fair that you might have to buy it AGAIN, even if they offer some kind of “discount”. That is wrong, imo.
DONE!
December 10, 2011 at 11:53 pm #338590AnonymousInactiveI just finished my exam using becker self study and a supplement here and there of wiley, gleim, and some FAR Ninja Notes. To say Becker is garbage is foolish. You get out what you put in, suck it up and study!
December 11, 2011 at 12:25 am #338591AnonymousInactiveOther than the jokes that are sometimes posted, this has been one of the most entertaining threads I've read in a while. I thought goodluck2everyone's original post was kinda funny. I thought he was just venting. What's all the commotion about?
I'm using Roger and people on this forum have said he's irritating. Doesn't bother me. Say what you want about the guy. He might be irritating but he's irritating all the way to the bank! 🙂
December 11, 2011 at 12:34 am #338592AnonymousInactiveI wouldn't really blame any particular review course, If anything, blame the AICPA. They are the ones that are grading the exams. They are the ones that are determining your scores. They are the ones that are releasing these “easy” questions to Becker. Becker cannot just take any question from previous exams and put it in their practice tests. The AICPA chooses which questions they want to throw out and license to the review courses.
And of course, we need to blame ourselves, like others have said. If we really knew the material well enough, we wouldn't be getting 60s and 70s. We would be getting 90s. We need to study to get a 99!!!! Any grade lower than that is unacceptable!! Study study study until you feel you can hit a 99 on the exam. It is possible because some people here have achieved that score. I know it sounds insane and is easier said than done, but if you study with that kind of goal, you're guaranteed a passing grade next time.
December 11, 2011 at 8:15 am #338593Yvonne570MemberLol with this entire thread. I guess we do need our rant areas:) Going for the CPA is very rough. You have to eat, live, and breathe the exam until it's over. Family, kids – go away and if you do not have kids, then cool. We all have to work hard to get to the goal. For those who passed all sections the first time, awesome job. It takes a lot of discipline to completely prepare for the exam. There's no such thing as luck. It's all a result of hard work. I suck bad with REG so will need a REG for dummies to get the concepts through my thick skull. LOL. Doesn't mean i'm stupid. Doesn't mean Becker is bad. Becker doesn't work for me with REG. So I will try another review course.
There's my rant. LOL.
AUD - Passed:)
FAR - Passed:)
REG - Retake TBD
BEC - Missed by 3 points Retake TBDDecember 11, 2011 at 5:10 pm #338594mandy8041MemberI think Becker was great. I never saw a question on my exam that was.not covered in becker. When I failed exams it was because.I did not study enough and I knew it prior to going into the exams. I am a firm believer that neveryone learns differently and Becker may not be right for everyone. I never watched lectures after passing the first two exams because they were not teaching me as well as I could teach myself. But that is not ideal.for everyone. The material itself does cover everything on the exam but if you don't fully understand the concepts you won't pass because questions are not word for word by any means.
FAR- 75
REG- 82
BEC- 73, 79!! Its over. Am I dreaming?
AUD- 74, 74, 88December 11, 2011 at 6:46 pm #338595Yvonne570MemberSometimes it may be necessary to supplement the materials if Becker doesn't make sense. Audit was fine with Becker alone – Tim G was excellent. FAR was a beast to review with Becker's structure; however. I skipped all Peter O lectures and scored higher than my AUD.
I spend hours and days and even took a week off from work to focus on Regulation. Spent more time studying since I could not get it. I did not supplement with other review such as Wiley, which may have been a mistake – ended up with a 63.
BEC – I seem to get this fully and can answer MCQs without reviewing materials – as if common sense for me. Worried that the test may not be the same so am looking for the “catch” to this section. LOL. Still haven't found it.
All in all, everyone has a different learning style. Becker offers lectures; however, i'm more “hands on”. I think with REG, I need to go through taxation (individual I scored stronger) however, with business, I need to do projects and hands on to “get it”. Or REG for dummies. Not sure what will get this stuff to sink in.
AUD - Passed:)
FAR - Passed:)
