Less drama, more support, please. I failed Audit with 70 so I was definitely underprepared. Back to studying folks…here's to passing in 2012.

December 8, 2011 at 8:55 pm #338522gottagetmycpaMemberplease I did not blaming anyone I just responded to this post with my personal thoughts I have not shed one tear. I paid for my nts and planning my attack. what I do hate is when people whom have passed the exam come on this site to bash those whom have not. Like my mom always says “how quickly we forget”. You have failed an exam so you should understand. We just got our scores and are venting if I was that cocky I would pay for an exam review but I am not doing that. I am sure cpaexcel was not your first review course. You found what works for you GREAT now go off and enjoy your CPA while we “whine” until the next score release. jjeeeezzzz

December 8, 2011 at 8:56 pm #338523katyuserMemberOP,
I passed 3 – all with Becker and all taken in the last few days of the window – so I really don't think your theories fly. I'm waiting on the 4rth – also with Becker and also taken at the end of the window – however I'm not too hopeful because I didn't put my full efforts into it. If I fail, it won't be Becker's or the curve's fault. I was getting in the high 80s too for this last one, but during my review I was still forgetting lots of the MCQs – the first time 80s scores are no guarantee.
December 8, 2011 at 9:00 pm #338524AnonymousInactiveGuys,
The CPA Exam is not a final exam of Becker, Roger, or any review course. It's a test on how well you have MASTERED the CSOs. You cannot just be familiar with the material – you have to understand it thoroughly and be able to apply it.
The review courses are there as a guide. But YOU have to know if you need to supplement them (eg – one person has a strong background in a specific area, or does audit for a living, or whatever, and would just need a quick review. Another person is learning the material from scratch and would need multiple ways of learning).
These are TOUGH exams. They are not curved (meaning, it doesn't matter when you take the exam – questions are still worth a certain amount of points). EVERYONE who takes them has the equivalent of an accounting degree, with many people having advanced degrees in accounting. Yet, only 40% pass each section, and some very smart and capable people are struggling with scores in the 50s and 60s.
Finally, with Audit in particular, it can be very tricky. You CANNOT just memorize and expect to pass. They will give you lots of questions where the incorrect answer stands out and looks correct. The correct answer looks wrong.
I hope this helps. It's frustrating as hell to study for 100+ hours and realize you have to do it over again (3,4,5,10 times sometimes). It will all be worth it in the end. CPA after your name holds a lot of credibility around the world.
December 8, 2011 at 9:01 pm #338525julia_zMemberLet's start studying hard and try to pass in Q1 2012! Drama and tensions will not help anyone. Cheers!

NY CandidateDecember 8, 2011 at 9:04 pm #338526MyLifeisCPAMemberOh GOSH!!!! I would hope this site was created to be a SUPPORT system not a baggering or whatever this thread is doing!! We all want to pass and when you fail and you know you have done all that you could do (which is your opinion on that) it hurts. but now at this point, IT IS WHAT IT IS!!! Most of us on this forum have failed a time or two or three. So DUST your shoulders off an try at it again, we all did. We have all used various review courses and have failed/passed using those courses. Some of us have gotten low scores on the review course and have gone on to pass that exam and some the reverse. I am sure blaming BECKER, AICPA(curve) or whomever will not change your failing score, it may make you feel good for the moment. So my suggestion would be, to use today to be mad but tomorrow-Plan an attack for conquering your respective exams.

Licensed Texas CPA - 10/2012December 8, 2011 at 9:37 pm #338527SwanCPAMemberThis is truly funny! All the bickering that is. @goodluck2everyone I think Becker stinks too! I think they make you think you can do anything. I signed up for a 4 part review straight out of college. (Which I did very well in college.) I thought hey, you take a review course have a couple weeks then test. They must know what they're doing by now. It's doable! Then, BOOM Failed all 4. It was a waste of time for sure!
I have been using Yaeger and passed 3 of 4 …..maybe 4 for 4 if my score ever shows up. My second fail on BEC was simply because I was at a point of giving up and didn't study at all so don't judge that. I failed REG twice but the second time was only by a few points and I had something unexpected happen the night before the exam which kept me up until about 3 am. I restudied and passed REG on try number 3. I think I would have passed the 2nd time if I wouldn't have been up all night.
Point is ….Becker is garbage and Yaeger is the way to go! 🙂
Sorry Mini… and others

BEC - 63, 61, 75!!!!! I'm done!!!!December 8, 2011 at 9:44 pm #338528SwanCPAMemberBTW…..just because people say ridiculous things doesn't always mean they ACTUALLY think that the reason they didn't pass is simply because of the day they took the exam on, or they were up all night the night before, or they didn't study very hard….or whatever other thing we want to say. Sometimes we just want to think, for a small moment, that it couldn't be because of anything we did….there must be a reason other than we're not good enough….
Ultimately that's what many of us end up feeling like. Like we're just simply not good enough. No one wants to feel that way. So we momentarily whine, blame and vent. Then we decide, do I want to keep at this or not? If we decide yes, we suck it up, fork out the money and give away a few more months of our lives.
That's just how it goes!

I got a speeding ticket, stupid cop. I bang my toe, stupid coffee table. everyone just relax becker does suck for some people. the CBA could have posted the wrong score ( ya never know HA) at the end of the day NONE OF US ARE QUITTING!!! just rant and move on. no need to bash someone about their emotions and feelings ESPECIALLY when you can no longer relate to the feeling.

December 8, 2011 at 10:34 pm #338531AnonymousInactiveBecker has worked for me, but everyone had different learning styles. Unfortunately I've had to take a few of the exams multiple times, but I would have to say that even though I did excellent using the Becker review questions there were a few issues in AUD, BEC and REG that I do not remember learning about in the program (or I learned it in another section of the review). That being said, upon retaking the tests they were completely different than the first time and followed what was in the Becker program.
I really think they cannot prepare you for every little detail but they do a pretty good job of teaching the more tested items.
December 8, 2011 at 10:41 pm #338532tonyt0299MemberI totally agree with him becker is garbage and I passed the first three parts that I have taken…Audit wasnt too bad….But in BEC the book was so chopped up and pasted together that it was impossible to follow certain topics. In regulation they tell you this chapter is 20% this one is 15%, thats anciliary -read it once…I sit for my exam and literally 40% of my test was anciliary material and I got 2 questions on the 20% chapters and my simulations mustve fallen outta the sky cause becker sure didnt help me learn about them….God must have been with me when I took my tests cause it certainly wasnt becker helping me

FAR- -- 75 🙂December 8, 2011 at 11:36 pm #338534slugger991MemberI actually thought the CPA exams questions were a lot simpler than the ones on Becker. If you go through all Becker problems and COMPLETELY understand (keyword: completely) the ones you missed and even the ones you got right by luck there should be no reason why you can't pass the actual CPAs. I understand the sims for FAR and REG are a little different from those in Becker but if your foundation is strong from Becker sessions you should be able to hold your own. I thought Becker was very good for FAR, BEC, and AUD but a little weak for REG. But it sufficiently prepares you to pass those things in your first shot given you put in your work.
