Becker for BEC

    Hi all,

I’m using Becker for BEC as I did for AUD. For audit, I watched the lectures and took detailed notes, then hammers out the MCQ for that section and moved on to the next section and repeated the process.

For BEC, I watched the B1 lecture and had no problems with the first two homeworks because they were concepts and I remembered them well. The third MCQ section is heavily math based, which shouldn’t be a problem except it seems like the lecture and textbook didn’t touch on the problems the way Becker is giving them. The problems seem much more complex and segmented (needing to find three other numbers just to back into and “squeeze” out the number needed for the solution). Its taking me hours to get through these 100 questions – did anyone else feel this way when they started BEC using becker? Is it imperative that I solve these and learn them 100 percent or are these questions I probably wont see on exam day? Exam is set for second week in July.

B2 and B3 were by far my least favorite chapters in all of the cpa exam. My biggest piece of advice is not to get too bogged down in the wordy, lengthy math questions.

Thanks bandit. I should still learn the math behind them though right? I feel like the only way to do that is to do those damn lengthy problems

I just took BEC last month with Becker, and yes they are overly complicated compared to the exam. One piece of advice is to focus on B1 and B4, but i do remember multiple questions on those sections that were not covered by Becker, i'd probably read other COSO material if you can. I know all exams are different, but I only got a couple questions on B5 & B6. There was a decent bit of math on the exam though.

I took BEC 3 weeks ago using Becker and I wouldn't worry to much about the complex computation problems. Another tip I would suggest is to not even worry about the simulations for each section and just do the ones in the practice exams to save time studying.

I agree with Kelleyzt32. Due to timing constraints I didn't look at any of the sims or do either practice exam with Becker. I tried to hammer as many MCQ as possible.

Strongly encourage reading the chapters 3x, and do the MCQ after EACH chapter. I wouldnt bother with the videos unless you are really struggling with a certain concept. I took BEC this morning using this strategy and for me it was night and day compared to my first attempt. Used lectures and a ton of MCQ's on my first attempt and got a 74.

    FAR - 75
    REG - 69, September 16
    BEC - 80
    AUD - 69, October 16
