I am using Becker as my study materials. I have read a few posts on here that say Becker is not good for BEC section. Is this true? Will I be okay studying with Becker only? Thank you.

Becker is excellent for BEC. If I had to recommend Becker for any of the sections, it would definitely be BEC. I used Becker for all 4 parts and it seemed to cover BEC the best (which I passed on the first try).

It is also excellent for AUD. It seems adequate for FAR, but Yaeger definitely is superior for REG.

I don't have my score for BEC (just took it last Friday). Becker's BEC was much harder than what I actually experienced on the exam. Becker's material did prepare me for BEC well though. IT might be the exception. There were things that were not covered in Becker's IT section (BEC-4) nor in their addendum. I am a computer geek on my own though so none of the IT stuff really bothered me.

I was going to ask that same question.. Seems like the general consensus on here is that Becker is not that great for BEC, so I've been a little worried if I should supplement/change to a different review course. It also seems like BEC is usually people's lowest score… I just don't want to come this far and mess up now.

dwadecpa…how was your BEC score compared to your other sections?

    Thanks!

BEC was 80. FAR was 75. AUD and REG await, but I did not spend much time studying (busy season here and NTS was running out).

I study bare minimum. I spend time casually getting familiar with the material over 2-3 months, then spend 5 days in a row cramming right before the test. 80's pretty good for how much I studied – I don't think I would have done any better with any other review program given the amount of time I studied study habits.

One of the keys to passing BEC is to do the homework problems over and over – as there are a lot of calculations to remember. Becker, along with many others I'm sure, include lots of these problems and therefore make it more than an adequate review program.

My point is, if you're studying BEC with Becker, do not worry. Just continue with it because you will pass with it if you keep working. Don't second guess the material at this point – you will lose focus if you start to think the problems are not relevant or are not going to help you. They will. It is very good for BEC – I know many people who have passed BEC with Becker, even those who have struggled with other sections. Good luck!

I took BEC three times so far using Becker!!! I got a 69, a 74 and don't know yet. From my exam experience I honstely don't think that Becker is enough for this section. I got several questions that were not covered by Becker. If you decide to study from Becker, I think that you should supplement your self with another study material on the side as well. good luck

I passed BEC on the first try. I used Yaeger homestudy for BEC and I supplemented it with Becker and Kaplan. What is amazing is that all three review programs covered different material! BEC is like that. The BEC exam favors the CPA candidate who covers the most material.

For $345 with the discount, you cannot beat Cindy at Yaeger. She even tells you how to efficiently allocate your time. Becker is a nice backup for BEC if you, or your firm, have the big bucks and if you do not mind someone reading to you from Power Point.

I have used Becker for my exam preparation. So far, so good. I hope it holds true for REG as well. Different strokes for different folks, I guess… I can't say I have seen a lot of questions out of nowhere on any of my exams, but I did read the books from cover to cover. Even for REG, had I actually read all the appendixes, I might not have had to guess on a few questions. I suppose I got a little sick and tired of studying towards the end there.

I've found the appendix readings and reading the chapters in their entirety for Becker is a must. There have been several questions amongst my 3 exams that came out of the Becker material not specifically covered in the lectures. Most of those are easy fact-type questions worth a point here and there.

I would agree with Dale, I originally signed up for Becker online classes, so I was requried to complete the material at a specified pace to be eligible for tuition free continuing help. Long story short I finished REG and BEC classes in August and didn't have time to sit for the exams until October or November. I had to go back through all the material, which seemed intimidating at first, but I felt like I gained so many points by just reading each chapter in its entirety instead of just going over the highlighted/underlined portions. There is a lot that isn't covered in the lectures (Thank Goodness because I don't think I could sit through any more of Peter and Tim in one sitting). For BEC in particular I had heard the horro stories of obscure IT and cost accounting questions, so I re-read those chapters one more time and felt very comfortable during the exam. There weren't any questions that I felt blindsided by, just a few that I had to guess between 2 answers. That being said, if you have money to burn by all means make the investment in extra materials for the peace of mind and to increase your confidence walking into the exam.

I used Becker and got a 94 on BEC. I haven't seen a score on BEC higher than 94, so I'd say Becker is more than adequate.

I'm sure each study material is good enough to get the job done. It's more about what you do with the study material that counts.

For me Becker was great for BEC. I am also only a few months out of college and remembered almost everything covered on the exam. Finished the actual exam in about 1 hour 15 minutes so I felt comfortable. I felt the HW questions really helped me understand the topics

    FAR - 90 7/29/2010
    BEC - 90 8/10/2010
    AUD - 92 8/31/2010
    REG - XX 10/3/2010

I definitely recommend Becker for BEC, AUD, and REG (I take FAR on Tuesday, I'll give an update after I get results on that one). I spent about a month studying for each of these 3 while working full-time and passed all 3 on the first try. The only weekends I spent studying were the ones right before I took the test. I put very minimal time in. Skimmed the chapters once, did the homework once. Becker gets straight to the point and only covers the important stuff. Yes, you may have a few questions on stuff not covered but it's better to know alot about the important stuff then a little about everything…..in my opinion atleast.

I used Wiley for BEC. It seems like allot but Wiley for BEC enabled me to understand concepts better. Originally I only used BISK. However I used BISK for all the other parts. (the self study guides)

    Reg - 89, FAR - 79, BEC -74, 82, Aud -85

I got an 84 on BEC using Becker. So obviously, I would highly recommend it.
