    Becker Question –

I just started studying for FAR after passing Audit in February. I started F2 today, and while I understood the lecture pretty well, the MCQs just seemed to come completely out of left field. They didn’t seem to make any sense compared to the lecture and I was not really understanding why I was getting them wrong, even after reviewing the book. Will this get a little better as I progress through the material, or is every chapter like this? Any help/advice is appreciated! Feeling a little like I’m drowning.

I have retained more than I thought I did the first time. I agree with what Jeff has previously said- if you stretch out studying for too long, then you forget what you previously learned. With that in mind, if I were you, I would get through the material, then do the NINJA MCQs. The adaptive learning is invaluable. Don’t get wrapped up in trying to finish every single thing. Becker, Roger and NINJA would take a LOT of time. lol Whatever you do, I suggest doing NINJA at least the last three weeks, and the last week you will be able to see where you are weak and zero in on those areas. One thing about NINJA- Jeff doesn’t screw around. The subjects match the CPA exam subjects, so you can tell what you need to study. It is so much more efficient. Trying to match the Becker chapters to the subjects is like some secret classified jigsaw puzzle, and none of us have clearance to find what fits. Believe me- I have tried. Also, the last week, do the Becker Sims. Do NOT listen to people who say they don’t help. They definitely do, if not anything but get you acclimated to doing Sims.

Good luck! Keep studying and you guys will pass!!!

if you don't mind me asking, can you explain what the adaptive learning is? and yes I have been doing SIMS after the chapters I finish recently (was skipping them)..that was a bad idea. Sims def are a good indicator whether I truly understand the concepts. Thanks for the advice!

The adaptive learning is the best part of NINJA imo. You do questions, and the software adapts to what you answer correctly and what you miss, giving you more questions on your weak areas. Also, on the dashboard, you can see the actual numbers of questions you miss in each topic of the CPA exam. You can click on the section you are scoring low and do only those until you get better. It is MCQs on steroids- it analyzes and gives you feedback so you can see exactly what you need to study.

    My advice…..

    1) Make your OWN flashcards and take them everywhere you go. DO NOT USE BECKERS ELECTRONIC FLASHCARDS. IMO, there's too much info on them to actually be considered flashcards.

    2) If you're using becker, which I did, print off all the sims with answers and take them everywhere you go. And mark them up with your own notes!

    3) Do multiple choice questions at nausea. Do the same problem 10 times each, the patterns repeat themselves on the exam.

It doesnt matter if you have 5 minutes of spare time to review your flashcards/sim notes or 4 hours. If you want to get the exam over with, you'll need to spend your time wisely.

Y'all can do it, I have no doubt.

    FAR - 75
    AUD - 83
    BEC - 85
    REG - 72, retake October 2015 - 85 PASS!

    And I'm DONE. Praise!

Read the answer explanation. Most of them make sense. You will run into questions that are designed to trick you from time to time. In that case I just kinda ignore the questions and move on.
