Becker Expired – REG Retake – Plan of Action Advice Needed

Well, I took FAR yesterday, and prayerfully I passed. If I did, I move on to taking my last exam which is a retake of REG. If not, I’ll have to immediately take FAR over in October and REG in November. Either way, my Becker software expired as of today and will need to look into another source of review material.

I’m debating on what to do next as far as review material. I made all the notations in the REG review book from when I viewed the lectures a year…I have flash cards as well. I’m thinking of just adding WTB and read the Becker book cover to cover making and making notes. This is my last chance to pass all parts of the exam before AUD expires. I’m trying to determine if there is a better benefit to viewing a series of lectures again and a whole new review program, or just reading and studying what I have and get get the test bank for the MCQ and Sims. The subject matter won’t be completely foreign to me as I did prepare for this exam in the past, although a year ago, but I’m not sure how Becker structure matches WTB and if using the two will be a challenge or simple to connect.

Has anyone taken this route after their review expired and been successful? I’m not trying to take the “cheap” way out, but I don’t want to spend more than necessary. I took REG twice, 1st time got the 70, second was my retake 2 months later that I honestly did not truly study for, hence a lower score of a 61. I studied more intensely for the other exams, so I think I had the potential of scoring higher than a 70 with the review program I had if I had put in the effort.

I just want to make a smart financial and strategic decision given that I have one shot at this.

    AUD - 90 Pass
REG - 70,61,81 Pass DONE DONE DOOOOONNEEE!!!!!!!!
    BEC - 79 - Pass
    FAR - 70,82 - Pass

I'm currently using a 2011 Becker Book to study for Regulation. (Mine expired as well!) I also have one shot left in October before FAR expires.

I've been using the WTB because I didn't see a point in spending hundreds of dollars trying to get a super expensive study program. I think that the questions in there are pretty thorough, and although they have a different “style” in wording, you'll be able to get the repetition you need. They've been helpful, and I think that they complement the Becker materials well.

I was able to pass Audit and BEC by reading my Becker books without having test banks available, so it's definitely doable. I think the extra questions in the WTB will really help me with Reg this time around.

If you're not sure if you'll like it or not, just take a 24-hour test drive on their site. I was skeptical until I did that. (It's free!)

That's crazy, I was just in your exact situation last month. My FAR was going to expire, and REG was my final exam before I lost it.

I switched materials and increased my score by 11%. I originally used Roger, but I switched to the Yeager CPA REG cram course (videos only). Yeager uses the wiley test question book (you know the preface to every chapter before the questions that discusses the topics?)

I found his videos to be refreshing and it covered several topics that I've seen previously on the exam that were not covered by Roger (I've taken reg previously several times). So that is my recommendation, relatively inexpensive compared to a full section purchase from a diff course

Good luck, you can do it

Do you have Reg scheduled? If not schedule it and then contact becker. If you have 1 test left and you have is scheduled in the next window they will open it back up for that window. They will only do it for 1 test window after the 18 months though.

    FAR - 81
    REG - 81
    AUD - 82
    BEC - 81

    Ethics - Done
    State License Exam - Done

    So1913,

Have you requested an extension with Becker yet? If not, you should be able to get up to 90 days (assuming you have an exam scheduled within that time frame) free. If it expired due to old software license, possibly 2011, then they may offer you a discount if you develop a strong enough argument.

I was recently in that situation. My argument to them was simple. Their extension guarantee supersedes the software expiration. Further, their extension guarantee induced me to schedule exams after my 18 month software term expired, as I was reliant on the extension guarantee. The result, they sold me 3 exam sections of the self-study version for only $595 total. I think that is about 1/3 of the normal price.

    Good luck!

    AUD: 94 (Nov. 2013)
    FAR: 76 (Oct. 2013)
    BEC: 79 (Nov. 2012)
REG: 84 (Dec. 2013) It's Mile 26.2, and we finished. Blood, sweat and tears, passion, perseverance, and never giving up, we did it!

I moved to West Africa (March 2013) for work and had to update the date and time on my laptop. My Becker software didn’t like this and made me reenter a code online in order to work again. I did as instructed, and somehow the software got stuck on a day and never updated. I was able to use the software for about a month after it expired. However, during that time I did not restart my computer. Once I took my last section, I restarted for the first time in 5 months and was promptly locked out of the software. @so1913 this probably won't help you, but maybe someone else is able to squeeze out a few extra days.

I think you'll be fine by using the Becker book and the WTB. I would also recommend buying the Ninja audio; it helped me get through FAR. I pretty much listened to it before bed for about 3 months straight. My score didn’t increase 10 points, however, it did rise by 8 which was fine by me. Also, make sure you focus on practicing the simulations in the WTB. Good luck!
