TSMParticipantI am currently preparing for FAR. Just wondering if the supplemental questions in the Becker CPA Review review are worth attempting. Anybody felt comfortable when they took FAR even though didn’t practice any of those questions? Thanks!
Texas: FAR 83 (8/25/10) | AUD 83 (11/22/10) | BEC 78 (2/26/11) | REG 90 (7/9/11)
End of a two-year long CPA exam journey!

AnonymousInactiveI wouldn't blow them off. The supplemental questions are typically a little harder and will help you master the material. I know they're a pain… but it's probably worth it.

AnonymousInactiveI would for sure go over them. They seem to be more difficult but are worth it even if you get them wrong. I know what I did for MC in terms of FAR is if I didn't know for sure what the answer was, I would mark an answer I knew was wrong so I could read the reasoning behind the answer and then on a second pass through ace those wrong questions. But for sure, if you can fit them in do those questions for your own sake.

potatogunParticipantDon't try to find any short cuts in studying. FAR is a time commitment. You can do it correct the first time and pass.

whitesoxfancpaParticipantDo them. Lots of the “less important” questions are covered in there. Some of the Becker topics that are only half a page might not have questions in the regular questions, but you'll see a few in the supplemental. I don't consider them supplemental. I consider them necessary.
The only ones I would say you could maybe get away with skipping are some of the F8 ones. Those are brutal and were worthless to me.

rafikiParticipantHey,
Regarding the supplementals, I agree with Ch 8 ones they are humongous and totally killed my energy quotient after doing better on F8 than all other lectures.
whitesoxfancpa, wondering what your thoughts are on FAR 2 supplementals: Timing Issues, matching, partnerships etc.
This stuff is SOOOO boring.
yawn!

AnonymousInactiveI was a big fan of the supplemental questions for Becker in all sections (REG/BEC/FAR/AUD) and encourage people to work them. I must admit I did not get to the ones in BEC-3 or BEC-5, but all other sections were worked multiple times. As much of a pain in the ass as this exam is there is no point in short cutting it just on the supplementals.

whitesoxfancpaParticipantrafiki,
The only supplementals I didn't do were a few in F8. Those really long governmental questions, because I couldn't understand them at all so I just flat out gave up.
I did all of the questions in F2. I highly recommend you do them.

2010PleaseParticipantOkay, just finished covering all Becker FAR, except I need to go back and hit supplementals for F5-F9. I (like many of you) agree the supplementals are very important (like some of you though, I wasn't able to get through all of them in B3 and B5 before I just gave out). Also, from what I'm seeing here for FAR, Florida Candidate and Whitesoxfancpa were able to do very well on FAR without doing some/all of the supplementals in F8 and F9. Looks like there are 123 (ugh!) in F8 but only 14 in F9, so I'm thinking I might try the F9 ones since I just finished that section of regular homework problems, meaning it is still fresh at this point.
@ Florida_Candidate and Whitesoxfancpa, how did you decide which ones to do and which ones to skip in the F8 supplementals? Although I haven't looked at them to test the difficulty level yet, I trust that if you two gave out on them, they gotta be tough. Do you think I'd be benefited more by putting my time somewhere else rather than battling the supplementals in F8?

AnonymousInactiveFor what it's worth, I did the FAR F8 Supplemental Questions multiple times each. I would say at least 2-3 times each; but that's just the way I learn. I wouldn't skimp on doing them– yes they will be hard, but yes you will get a good grasp on the concepts by doing them. And hey, if you get a SIM on stuff covered in the MCQs in F8, wouldn't it be worth having gone over at least once?

2010PleaseParticipantHey DocHalladay,
Thanks for your response…did you just feel sorry for my little question slipping away with no responses. π
I know it would be wisest to do them all, it is just that I remember how crazy some of the ones were in B5, and it turned out they were way overkill for what I experienced on the actual BEC exam. I ended up thinking my study time would have been better spent on basics in all areas rather than pounding on some of the over-the-top problems in B5, so I was wondering if some of the F8 problems were the same – sort of over the top.
When I decided to do all four sections in six months, I had not started working yet. I started working the day after I took AUD, so my time has been more limited ever since, and I am left with trying to get the best coverage with my limited time…the only other choice I have is to push it to 2011, and I don't want to do that at all.
I generally would do all of the problems 2-3 times too, but I was thinking since this area only counts for between 8-12% of the overall exam, maybe I'd be better served reviewing the basics in all areas rather than eating up a lot of my limited time fighting really tough problems in that one section. I think what I'll do is go ahead and go back over all my other areas first, then depending on how I feel and what time I have left remaining, I'll tackle those. I do plan to take off work the day after Thanksgiving, so I'll have four days off before taking my exam on the Monday after Thanksgiving. Hopefully, I'll be feeling pretty good by then on everything else and will be able to go back in and do those. I just figured, if whitesoxfancpa and florida_candidate came out with 90s without them – maybe they were just too much fluff.
So did you feel that you would have suffered any if you hadn't done those? Wish I were like you – already sitting on the other side of the finish line. Hopefully, I will be soon. π

2010PleaseParticipantDoc Halladay,
Don't know if you are still on here, but thought I'd let you know I decided to go ahead and do F8 supplemental questions…just reviewed F8 and F9 and also watched Yaeger's lecture for these topics too – figured the F8 questions would be good practice for Becker and Yaeger lectures. If they save me on the exam, I owe it to you. π
