Just curious if others are finding the MCQ ridiculously hard for this section? I had an instructor warn me that the questions were really hard since Becker doesn’t have old financial questions to go by so they make up their own, but it’s really stressing me out that I’m getting almost all of them wrong.

Just curious for those of you who have already taken the BEC test and studied with Becker, am I right to think that the financial section of Becker isn’t a good representation of the actual test?

The exam questions don't have near the twists and turns the becker questions do. I couldn't even get through the supplemental questions for Lecture 3…I finally gave up. As long as you understand the basics of the formulas and what they mean you should be fine. The IT lecture is where the questions come out of left field.

I don't remember what financial questions I got on the exam, but, just for reference, I didn't do the supplemental questions in Becker chapter 3 and I got, on average, about 65% correct on the regular Becker MCQs on the first try.

thanks guys that's good to know, I just really can't imagine failing this test…this whole time I was eager to start BEC thinking it would be the easiest, but so far it's turned out to be the most frustrating and difficult to understand for me. I was fine for the first two lectures but after that Becker went crazy with questions that were never even covered in the reading and answers that made absolutely no logical sense. Looking at Zena's score on the actual test and MCQ score comforts me a lot though. thnx 😀

    Strider,

I call BEC the black hole of the CPA exam. I passed on my second try with an 81. First try was a 69 but I had not studied to my potential. I used the Becker as well. My advice on passing this beast is:

    1. Answer every single MC question Becker gives you, including supplemental questions, multiple times until you answer them all correctly several times.

    2. Find someone who is taking an Auditing I class that has a good book including a chapter or two on I.T. Reading that really helped me understand the systems and verbiage well enough to perform well on the exam.

    3. Know your cost accounting concepts and definitions as well as how to problematically solve the working questions.

    4. MOST IMPORTANTLY…..pay no attention to the level of difficulty of the questions in the testlets. Don't get discouraged and think you are bombing the exam if the questions don't get more difficult in testlets two and three. You probably already know this, but just in case you don't, the BEC exam does not vary in the level of difficulty based on your performance. This is the only exam that does not change difficulty level. I freaked out the second time I sat for it and left thinking I'd failed it again until I read the scoring process on the AICPA website (for the 10th time). It made me feel a little better, and I was pleasantly surprised when I got my score.

The BEC-3 questions in Becker hit me hard. I scored worse on those my first pass than I did on any other of the Becker questions so far. I still haven't touched the supplemental questions for that lecture yet, which is really odd for me (maybe this weekend). I watched the lecture again this weekend (live class the past week) and did one section of the lecture followed by the questions. This really helped and I was able to do much, much better after going through it a second time.

I actually believe that Becker prepares you really well for the financial managment section of the BEC exam. I studied through Becker and I took the exam twice. There are so many questions from chapter 3. I recommend that you to do all the multiple choice questions. The real exam is simpler, that is true, but doing all the questions on that particular chapter is key to succeed.
