Anybody have any advice on how I should use the additional IT material Becker provides online for BEC chapter 4?

Seems like overkill but I’m wondering if anyone recommends it or feels that the textbook & MC is sufficient.

    Thanks for any advice.

hey erad. i am taking BEC jan 27 and i wasn't planning on reading the additional IT material that Becker provides. i have heard that it is a lot of material and i feel if Becker didn't cover it in the lectures/chapter, then i am inclined not to read it! i don't really even look at the appendix sections either. not sure if that is a bad thing but i passed both REG and AUD using the same techniques.

i am, however, ordering the Yaeger CRAM dvd for BEC because chapter 3 is really confusing to me and i want something else to supplement Becker.

    AUD - 84; REG - 90; BEC - 79; FAR - 75; ALL DONE!!

Well I think it depends on your IT knowledge. I took BEC once without looking at the addendums and completely bombed the IT section. Then took it again after reading through them a couple of times (even the glossary) and came out with an 82. They say at the beginning of the addendum that IT is more heavily tested than they anticipated. It was also way more detailed than I think they thought it was going to be. I think that is why they offered the addendum in the first place. If you are comfortable with your IT knowledge and don't have time to mess with it, then I wouldn't, but it was definitely helpful to me and was the difference in passing or failing.

I would read over it once if you have the time. It may help you catch a term or two that you weren't familiar with before. I know it's LONG. I just did a few pages at a time because that's all I could stand.

    Thanks for the advice.

I think I will read a few pages of the technical addendum each night. That way, it won't be so overwhelming.

I won't stress myself out trying to memorize it, but a little overview can't hurt. Better to be safe than sorry, right?

I would agree with cmb2009 advice. Depends on your IT background. I used Becker and did not read it but I do have an IT degree with 6+ yrs of software experience. I scored very high (90+%) on all the Becker multiple choice questions from the first time through so thought reading the addendum would be a waste of my time when I needed to review BEC chapter 3 & 5 more. However, I would also say that I received my fair share of IT questions on the exam since Becker estimates 22-28% of the exam is IT.

The lady that sits next to me in my Becker live class for REG is telling me the addendum was extremely helpful in her passing the BEC section. I may not focus heavily on it (good IT background) but I will be reading it all the way through at least once.
