I am on Becker’s update website and I see dozens of pages of IT reading material:

– 10 pages of clarification for the national instructor (this pisses me off something fierce)

– 39 pages of glossary

– 28 pages of supplemental reading material

So this is 77 pages of additional material, in addition to however many pages that dweeb will skip in the lecture.

For those of you who’ve used Becker or are using Becker for BEC, did you put a lot of time, or any time, into the extra material on the website?

I recommend reading through it once. The technical addendum is quite boring, but I read it a little at a time to get through it without sleeping! It was worth the once over because I recognized some of the info on the exam. GL!

The “corrections” to the national lecturer are really minor clarifications. He used some broad terms and generalizations that work but not always the case. Skip that one. The long addendum didn't provide any exam relevant data for me. I read it and enjoyed parts of it, but I'm a computer geek to begin with.

I didn't even know the Becker updates existed until after I took AUD and maybe a week before I took BEC. Needless to say, I didn't look at the update for BEC, either. My IT skills are rudimentary and I still managed a 91, so IMO, the update was unecessary. I will say, though, my finance/econ/bus. law skill set is strong, so I sloughed over IT knowing that I could make up some points in those areas…

I'm sorry I keep hearing people refer to this “technical addendum” and I don't see it anywhere in my book and I've read everything in B4 including the appendix… what is this and where do I find it? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

click on “knowledgebase(?)” on your Becker software home where you would watch lectures and do homeworks on.

The knowledgebase has updates/corrections/addendums/etc. for all the sections. I used it for all of my exams so far.

Apparently it really isn't THAT much of a help because my brother said he didn't look at any of them, and he's a CPA. Granted, he failed two the first time, LOL.

Honestly I don't think any of them helped me a whole lot so far, but I still glance over them.

Also, you can download changes to the questions/answers in your PassMaster software. That might be worth it. Mostly it's just changes in the explanations for the answer choices.

But don't get overwhelmed and freak out thinking you have to do all this and your exam is Friday. I don't think it's all that important.

I took a look at the addendum (breezed over it really). I don't believe I retained anything. IT in general is just scary to all accountants. In all honesty there was only one IT Q on my BEC exam that stumped me and I got wrong. BEC did cover the topic in the textbook. Overall knowing what is in the textbook is good enough.

I thought my BEC exam was really easy. I thought I nailed it even though I later found out I got 3 questions wrong that had me stumped. I thought I could not have gotten more than 5 or 6 Qs wrong, but I think since it was “Easy” you could get hurt more for wrong answers. I thought I did better on BEC than Audit. I got a couple of Qs wrong from things I glanced over on Chp. 2….

Trust me with scores like that and keeping the same pace of study, you should feel 100% confident you will pass BEC.
