Just went through the a1 lecture in Becker. Is it just me or does anybody else feel like it was pointless? Tim just pretty much told us to highlight this highlight that without explaining anything. Most of the stuff he has us highlight I don’t understand at all.

Homework wise I averaged 80’s because they were mainly on the same few topics, like other matter paragraph, emphasis of matter paragraph, audit opinions, going concern and etc…

Should I be worried about not understanding the lectures…?

I am on the same boat as you. I just finished A3. I feel like I haven't really learned a lot after 3 chapters (comparing to FAR review). The lectures from Tim are pretty much useless. The mnemonics are really not helpful. I am doing pretty good at MCQs though averaging high 80s low 90s. I've been told that things are going to get a lot harder starting A4 though so I'm looking forward to it. Also, I've been told that Becker does a great job at preparing you for the actual exam so I guess if we just stick to the review plan, we'll be alright.

^I agree with you 100%. Some mnemonics are really a stretch. MR DIM? REPPORT CRAME? I mean…really?

But the fact that not knowing what Tim is talkin about while listening to the lectures really frustrate me.

I also heard good thing about Becker for aud, but am not sure whether just understanding the homework would be enough. What do you think?

Are you guys new? Just trust Becker, they are very good at what they do. Everyone has their opinions on Becker. Tim is pretty much boring and tells you to highlight everything. He probably has stock in Bic. Once you get to other sections, you'll see more of Tim and Peter. Peter is the best.

What I have done is watch the lecture, write notes, do the hw after each specific sections. I failed my first exam with REG because I wasn't utilizing the review material correctly. Then, I discovered Ninja MCQ and utilize the ninja once I was done with the review book from Becker. Since then, I've gone 3/3 and just took audit on Saturday. Hopefully it's my last exam ever.

Just trust Becker and their mnemonics.

Make sure you visit the AUD study group.

@Papogator24 I'm in the process of studying for REG w/ Becker now. In R1-R3 I did a lot of reading and a lot of notes (possibly too many, yet concise), lectures on commutes to work. Recently, (on R4 and now on R5) I realized I need to “trim the fat” and have been doing just high-level notes from the lectures, and doing MCQ after each lecture. —Do you highly recommend NINJA MCQ as a supplement to Becker MCQ?

@skibum, everyone has a different study method. I do recommend getting the ninja MCQ as it's only 47 bucks. It gives you an overall statistics for each section you are trending. That's how you can find your weakness. I only use the ninja once I'm done with the book. While I am studying with becker, I utilize the progress test to ensure that I m retaining the info.

    REG - 82
    FAR - 78
    BEC - 76

I am not new. I know Becker has a good reputation which I agree. I have passed BEC and am waiting for REG. My experience with Becker for these two exams were great. However, now that I am with AUD, it is a complete opposite. Sometimes Tim would have us highlight the ENTIRE paragraph of something or like bullet point #1 to #10 with no explanation of what they even mean. I find it very hard to understand, let alone retaining what he said.

Then when I get to the homework, it is different. The homework only covers like ~25% of what he had us to highlight. And I do great on them. So I don't know what to think and can't really gauge my progress. During lectures I feel horrible. During homework I feel alright….
