    Becker Question –

I know Pete says to, “read it through one time and what sticks sticks…” but does anyone actually follow that? I’m on F1 and I feel like there is a ton of detail in the Ancillary materials here. For reference I’ve taken AUD and REG. (REG had a ton of Ancillary in the middle but working as an EA I had experience with all/most of that stuff).

I am just wondering to what extent I should be studying this stuff.

I loathe the ancillary material to the very depths of my being. Don't listen to what Pete says about it–you'll notice a delightfully high number of questions coming up in the homework that were covered ONLY in the ancillary material. I guess a good strategy for FAR would be to take note of homework questions that weren't covered (which will be a long list) and study the ancillary material related to them.

From what I've heard for REG purposes, ALL of the ancillary material is important regardless of what the instructors say. Don't know much about BEC…

    FAR 07/27/11 - 87
    AUD 10/01/11 - 85
    BEC 11/15/11 - 87
    REG 01/03/12 - 92

I found ancillary material to be extremely important for REG and BEC. It was less of an issue with AUD and FAR.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

I completely ignored the ancillary material for FAR. Didnt even read through it once. Best decision ever. That being said, I plan on reviewing it at least once for BEC and REG based on what others (mostly KB) have said.

Call me dunce, but I'm using Becker too, and I always get confused when people refer to the “ancillary material”.

What is that, and where is it located?

Since this post was started several months ago, does it refer to the 2011 version of Becker?

Maybe Becker made some changes and it's not in the 2012 book, or am I overlooking it?

    Please advise!!

    Thanks!

    FAR - 86 - 2/27/14
    AUD - 75 - 5/29/14
    BEC - 80 - 8/31/14
    REG - 89 - 2/27/15
    Praise Jesus! I'm done!!

Ancillary material is marked as “Ancillary material” in Becker books. I believe 2011 had lot of ancillary material, and 2012 may not have as much, if nothing at all.

I know for REG, Becker took out entire section of ancillary material and turned into an extra chapter.

If it's in your book, you will come across it and won't miss it…

I've been wondering the same thing. I did not know if it was just audit, or Becker removed the ancillary sections from their 2012 review books.

    BEC - 85
    REG - 77
    AUD - 73, 83
    FAR - 68, 89

For all four sections of the exam, Beckers 2012 has no material marked as ancilliary and they added an extra chapter. AUD & BEC went from 5 to 6, REG went from 7 to 8, and FAR went from 9 to 10 sections.

    REG- 2/12 - 90 | AUD- 4/12 - 94 | BEC- 5/12- 85 | FAR- 8/12 - 82

Never read the ancillary material for any exam. I did fail one section one time though, so take it how you want.

Sounds like it doesn't matter anymore though since I used 2011.
