My company is going to purchase the Becker self-study review material. We have three people who will be sharing this. Our plan was to order the 2013 material because we can get it right away and possibly be prepared to take an exam by the end of November. The 2014 material wouldn’t ship until November which would push back our study time and test date.

Are there any disadvantages in ordering the 2013? Also does Becker offer any updates to your material?

I don't know if Becker offers updates. If they don't, then the disadvantage to 2013 is that Auditing is changing some more Jan 1, so unless you all 3 took and passed Auditing in the next window, you'd be in a bit of trouble next year! However, if Becker updates, then you'd be fine either way and could get a headstart!

No advantage for 2013 especially that REG & BEC are changing in 2014.

I got my FAR materials late in 2012 which is not good since I didn't pass my first attempt early this year. I have no choice but to use my FAR 2012 until I pass I guess. But with FAR, it's okay to be a little outdated than the rest of the 3 parts.

I would order 2013. I ordered my books in May and since AUD was changing in July they sent two versions of the auditing book. Not sure if they'll do the same for sections that are changing in 2014.

If you order now, they won't send you the updates. If you qualify for the updates, that's a different story. But if you ordered in November or December, they would send you the updates.

So how will three people sharing one set work? I made tons of notes in my Becker books.

When I called Becker last June asking them to update my 2012 FAR materials since I purchased them just 7 months ago that time, they merely gave me a link containing a sheet of information with the ‘updates' on it. Was that it?

Do I have to patch these updates on my supposedly active software until it expires in 2015? I thought I paid for the online software that's always up to date for the whole duration of 18 months.

I talked with Becker themselves, and they mentioned that there are “updates”. I just wanted to make sure that these updates were as complete as we would expect. Becker said that their lectures are viewable online, and their online lectures update as a whole. In other words, there are not two sets of material from different years active and viewable online. For the software that is able to be installed on three separate computers, they said there are updates for that also. The textbooks are the only things that may have no options available for updates.

I just wanted to make sure that this was not salesman talk, trying to coax us into a purchase that we would later regret. Amordiva, based on what the rep on the phone said, you certainly should have access to updated material if the same rules applied in 2012. All input is appreciated.

Sure they can update my software IF I PAY EXTRA. You know money talks all the time!

As a matter of fact, I cannot anymore use the online software for 2012. I can only use my offline FAR software now.

I asked Becker to update my online software by adding FAR on my current AUD online lectures 2013. I was told, they cannot do it unless I pay again.

That's why I am not so excited to dig up my FAR materials again come September after my second attempt for AUD this month.

That's the reason I cancelled my registration for REG classes this coming November. I make sure I get the fresh 2014 materials early next year.
