Becker Question –

I just took the BEC final exams and I got a 76% on the first one and then a 68% on the second one.

Feel really stressed out about it. Has anyone taken the practice exams under the new format and scored similarly and passed?

You're so closed of becoming a CPA. Took BEC in August 31, 2017. If I happened to redo a similar exam, I would do the following:

– Be comfortable with most of the number crunching questions.
– Read BEC textbook briefly, try reading it, from first to last page, if possible.
– Be comfortable with SIMs writing skills. Make sure to allocate a decent time for this testlet, a minimum of at least 60-70 minutes to fully utilized that 15% part of your overall marks.

I got a 47 2 weeks before my exam and a 57 the week before. Ended up with an 86 on the actual. You will be fine!

@cLo – I just took BEC last weekend so I don't have results yet. But, I thought the simulations on the BEC Becker final exam were quite a bit harder and more tedious than the actual test. The multiple choice were approximately on par with the real thing. So if you're losing points on the sims, don't sweat it.

Also remember that the 75 you need is not an actual percentage correct. It's a scaled score which really has no measurable correspondence with a percentage. That's part of why so many people report a significant point jump on the their actual exam scores. Good luck!

@madaconte My M/C scores were OK but I felt like some of them were pretty hard too. That's true about the scaled score.

@cLo I got a 51 on the first mock exam and did not attempt the 2nd mock exam. I ended up with an 80 on the actual exam.

Did the actual test feel much easier to you? Or do you feel like you weren't really trying when you took the practice exam and you just were a lot more focused during the actual test?

I was definitely more focused during the actual exam. MCQs were decent but had a bunch of IT questions (I don't think anything could prepare me for IT). The WC was manageable. Sims were alright as well.
The day before the exam I mainly focused on ratios (be able to interpret them), corporate governance, variance analysis, and IT.

I see that you got an 83 on FAR. How did you study for it? I took it in Q2 and got a 72.

Thanks I'll try and give those a look over these next two days.

I took FAR in Q4 2016 so unfortunately the formats a little different. But I somehow scored stronger in both MCQ and sims. I'm not sure how it's weighted now but back then FAR had a 24% weight in governmental and NFP so I made sure I had a solid grasp on that material even though it was honestly incredibly dry. I don't know if it's as important anymore.

I think the most important thing with FAR is you gotta feel like you're comfortable with everything. Like all the calculation stuff and understanding of the journal entries. Sims really help in this regard I feel. When I reviewed for it(after doing lectures +hw/sims for first time) I went and tackled each chapter in the order that I felt I was weakest in and made sure I did questions and sims all over again. I think Becker does a good job with FAR. I really think that the sims help you understand the concepts a lot better in a way that MCQ's don't really so I would go over those with more detail especially with the new weighting. I felt absolutely terrible coming out of that exam though. All the other ones I would be kind of unsure of whether or not I was passing or not but FAR felt like a for sure fail because of how difficult the sims felt.

And I think most importantly if you feel like you need more time then give yourself that extra time to review. I've scored a 72 on FAR before as well and I felt like I needed an extra week to review. The second time I felt more ready and I was able to pass. You will too! Keep at it and you'll get past FAR!
