BEC – Becker – Cost MCQ’s

I am spending a lot of time on MCQ’s? For the cost accounting MCQ’s, which many of them in Becker involved doing computations, I am spending about 5 Minutes per MCQ to understand the answer and write it down, I have 97 total MCQ’s in this section, which means this will take me about 8 hours to get thru, does that sound normal, or better yet, does that sound like it will be time well spent? I am on track to finish section one one Sunday, which is right on track for my study plan, but I haven’t even looked at my Ninja notes or Becker flashcards yet, nor the Sim.

Any insight would be great, thanks.

That sounds about right, although some of the questions won't be calculations so you'll make up some time in those. I remember spending so much time in Chapter 1 through 3 I thought I'd never get through all the material, then I flew through Chapter 4-6. And yes, it's time well spent, working through those long calculations will help you understand the concepts much better. Now, if it will be on your exam is a whole other story!!!

    @Eliz

Thank you for responding, I was hoping someone would give me some insight on this post, I appreciate it. How do you feel you did on your BEC exam?

I knew Becker by the time I took it, but I'm not holding out hope on a passing score. I had a lot of questions out of left field, but I guess that's how it goes…

Once you get through the material once it all seems to get much easier and smaller and makes more sense the second time through. I did all the questions at least twice, and it didn't take me nearly as long the second time.

    Good luck studying!

I am experiencing the same thing! It took me forever to go through Ch1 & 2 with all the calcs especially in ch1 with the joint cost allocations, equivalent unit calcs (FIFO/weighted average), etc. I just finished watching Ch3 lecture last night.

Don't feel discouraged, CPAWannabe. I am also studying for BEC right now and was very frustrated with B1,B2, and B3 on the first go. Similarly to you, it took me about 9 hours to complete B3. In hindsight, it seems like it was time well spent because the extra time I took to really understand the mechanics of the problem have seemed to help in subsequent attempts.

I also re-read the book and reviewed relevant flashcards between first and subsequent attempts.

    Hope this helps.

    BEC - 84

If you still arent doing well on the questions the second time around, I would suggest picking up a college cost accounting book, they do a great job explaining the concepts in a different way that may help you understand. Just a suggestion!

    Good Luck!

To be honest, I came into the BEC exam expecting to do a lot more calcuations than I actually had to do. I was given much more concept questions.

    BEC - 90 PASSED
    FAR - 84 PASSED
    AUD - 93 PASSED
    REG - 84 PASSED

    I DID IT!!!!
