Becker Question –

I sit for FAR in October, and was just wondering what the average test score in your test bank of choice would be

before you felt comfortable enough for the exam? Currently averaging about mid 80’s to low 90’s using Wiley, based on sets of 30 multiple choice questions at a time.

On BEC, my cumulative average was 81, and I scored an 81. On FAR, I had a really rough last few days studying – my scores were in the 70's and occasionally the low 80's. Not gonna lie, I didn't feel prepared with those scores…! But, I got an 83, so I guess they were good enough! AUD my final scores were mostly in the 80's, which I felt a lot more comfortable with, but I won't be able to tell you how that panned out till Thursday.

Thanks @ Lilla, I plan on taking full advantage of the extra month I have to review. There are areas I can be better at. Just finished with business combinations, which are not very difficult at all. Hoping to go into full review mode by early September.

If I was you I would take FAR in this window and the next window. Obviously if money is an issue then this is a different issue, but your doing well on the MCQs. I would take a shot at it this window and try to steal a pass and save yourself time.

My scores for the actual practice exams were always pretty low. I honestly dunno why that was the case. I also used to take a progress test of 100 or so questions and the progress test results were usually within 5 or so points of what I ended up with on the exam.

Oh, the becker practice exams have a MCQ section and a Simulation section and I never really knew how to average the two scores. Taking the progress test gave me an easier to digest percentage as feedback.

Is there a direct link between the test score and the actual exams score? Does it mean that the questions on the wiley test bank are the questions on the actual exams? If that is so I strongly protest to the AICPA for being unfair .. then all I need is not to learn the concepts but focus all energy on WTB questions and just learn the answers or……

@jsimus Nope, there's not a direct link, and I have yet to see a question on the exam that was in the test bank. Similar ones at times (there's only so many ways to ask questions about the same material, and Wiley usually has well over 1000 of those ways represented 😉 ), but not the same questions. Because WTB has so many questions, though, it is good for testing your knowledge of the concepts without as much risk of inadvertently just memorizing the question (unless you do them repeatedly).

I agree with @ Lilla. The test bank has so many questions that it's a great tool to see if you understand the concepts. Some of this stuff just grows on your though and your level of understanding only gets better the more you look at it.

I averaged a 75 on FAR in WTB and got an 88 on the exam.

I scored about 10 – 15 points higher in the exam than on the WTB.

Do every single WTB problem and review your misses. You'll give yourself a reasonable chance – it can be done.

I took about 4 finals using WTB. Worked a whole bunch of practice problems, focused on my weaker areas such as evidence. Just took the exam yesterday. None of the questions I did on WTB or even Becker showed up on the AUD exam I took yesterday. My average from the WTB finals is 73. Evidence dragged me down. The rest I average in the 80s. The Sims yesterday was brutal. 2 research which I am pretty sure I got. But the rest was long and painful. I really hope I did ok. I face palmed and started laughing bc I felt like a failure and wasted all my time studying when I walked out of that exam room.

How did you review your practice final test from WTB?

@amordiva I keep rolling through the practice questions, and I see what my weak areas are by looking at the report. Then I spent about 2 days doing nothing but focusing on practicing in that area. Started doing a little better but it was still tough. After all the practice runs I took the practice finals. First run 73. Second run 68. Third run 85. Fourth run 78.

FAR exam is Monday. Averaging roughly 71-72 all around (sharper subjects higher, weaker subjects no lower than 65). Think this is solid?

@Bobcat- I would work the weaker areas. The weaker areas seem to show up on these exams and might throw off your concentration. Just my 2 cents.

Averaged 65-68 on WTB (~600 MCQs plus a few SIMs) and got 79, 79, and 82 on CPA, but I'm a pretty good test taker so take it with a grain of salt. There was similar thread of here a few months ago and a significant minority scored worse on CPA compared to WTB (i.e. mid 80s on WTB and got a 75 on CPA). Just depends.

@curtis I hope I test in line with how you did! I had heard that WTB was (for most) harder than the exam, but then seeing what you said about the prior thread has me worried! I will just pretend WTB is harder and go with that! 🙂
