I have 2013 reg and aud. I feel the books are the exact same quality. What pisses me off about becker is they dont send CDs anymore, but instead make you download the material. This isnt a big deal but then i come to find out they are not offering the MAC download till mid january. You can access the lectures online, but it seems to be slow and really just a pain in the ass.
December 14, 2012 at 2:24 pm #391950Ag12thmanParticipantThanks very much for letting me know about the no-CD for the new Becker. Seems like Becker is really cutting back on quality. Is this the impression you get? I also heard the books are full of thin paper and the binding falls apart before long. True?

Yes, that's true. No more CDs (probably from this point forward), it's all online now. I'd much prefer to study offline though, so I will download the material.
There's also a list of disclaimers to read and agree to before moving on to the materials. It tells you about an 18 month timer (I think it starts once you agree to the disclaimer). I stopped there since I'm still using my 2012 Becker Audit materials. Could be wrong but that's what I got out of it so far.

I like that I can access the material anywhere I am online and pick up where I left off (read: at work lol). However, I have found the online lectures glitchy for BEC so far. In Firefox on my Mac, they don't work at all. I loaded them in Safari and every third section or so it just stops working. I have to go back out of the lectures and click it again and then it will resume working.
The books seem fine relative to the 2012 Auditing one I had. I couldn't care less about the quality of the paper they use. The depth of material seems the same to me.

Becker Self Study and NINJA Notes
December 20, 2012 at 3:19 pm #391955AnonymousInactiveI would imagine the positive of everything being online is the 18 month rule. If you buy 2013 books and it takes you a long time to pass and you wind up having to take one in 2014 you can watch the 2014 videos to use for studying? I'm not positive but that could be a benefit.
December 20, 2012 at 3:45 pm #391956neika822ParticipantI just received all of the books a few days ago. I don't find any differences with paper quality versus my 2011 Becker books. I was surprised by the new design of the books (but that's just me!).
I'm wondering if I should have ordered the 2013 flashcards. I have my 2011 ones, which I'm sure are a bit different, but I couldn't find enough reason to spend money on a whole new set. Any opinions?
I will begin lectures right after Christmas, so I'll update on my opinions of the online lectures! I'm already dreading studying 🙁

December 20, 2012 at 5:11 pm #391957AnonymousInactive@neika822 – the flashcards have honestly been the greatest item of study material for me. They have forced me to look at things in a unique way, slightly different than the book/lectures. I can honestly say I wouldn't have come close to getting my scores I did without using the flash cards for my final review.
December 20, 2012 at 5:11 pm #391958AnonymousInactive(Mine were free though because Becker messed up my order and it took them 2 weeks to process it)
December 20, 2012 at 7:54 pm #391959neika822ParticipantI'm thinking about just purchasing the NINJA flashcards and maybe supplementing with my 2011 Becker flashcards. I just REALLY don't want to buy a whole new set after spending all that money on the Becker lectures.

December 25, 2012 at 2:07 am #391960TDKRParticipantbooks are definitely poor quality compares to what my co-worker has for 2012 version. Highlighting on one page bleed onto the page behind it and writing create dark impressions on the page behind (ink didn't completely dry?)
I'm the kind that read the book over after the lecture so I tend to use the book a lot and small things like that annoy me. Materials seem to be about the same as previous year, with the exception of an additional AUD book (for those taking it after July 2013).
Definitely do your homework and research as much as you can on which course will fit you best. Becker cost nearly twice as much as other charges ($3,200 – $300 discount =$2,900 for me). Good luck!

December 27, 2012 at 4:45 pm #391961neika822ParticipantSo I just started watching the online lectures. Every lecture, other than the videos with the instructors, don't allow me to pause. They don't even have a pause button there. They also don't cross-out once I've finished watching them. It's a bit irritating since I can't pause it to catch up and take notes. I miss the CD's!!

December 27, 2012 at 5:35 pm #391962Ag12thmanParticipant@ neika82: Thanks for that nugget regarding the Becker materials. What are your thoughts on the books for 2013? Do you recommend purchasing Becker 2013 overall? Did you purchase the entire course or are you doing one section at a time as far as purchasing goes?
FAR: July 2016
December 27, 2012 at 8:04 pm #391963neika822Participant@Ag12thman: I think the 2013 book quality is fine. I have the 2011 books as well, and they seem to be the same quality. My highlighting didn't seem to go through the paper. I bought the self-study set for all four sections. I did not buy the flashcards. I intend to supplement with the NINJA notes, flashcards, audio and Wiley test bank. I'll be making that purchase soon. I honestly can't tell you if I recommend Becker or not. It is really expensive, so if you know how you study best, I would look around for the best option for you. I've never done anything else but Becker. I tried the exam back in 2011 but wasn't taking it seriously, so I never studied as much as I should. I'm really hoping this time I'll be better prepared and motivated.
I'm hoping that once they allow us to download the 2013 Becker lectures for Mac, I'll be able to pause all parts of the lecture and that it'll “cross-off” my completed sections. I really like seeing my progress that way.
