    Becker Question –

I passed FAR by watching the lectures, doing MCQs and Ninja notes. But I scored very low on the MCQs until I went back and read the entire book. I understood the information much better after reading the book. It makes me feel like I wasted my time with the lectures. Does anyone feel the same way? I am doing Audit now and I feel like I want to skip the lectures all together.

The lectures really helped me for FAR. Olinto's are better than Gearty's as far as I'm concerned, and I had to pause the video every couple of seconds to re-write information and comprehend the material, but it was much more bearable than trying to read the book myself.

I started AUD a couple of days though, and I don't know anymore. A1 is so dry and Gearty just seems to want to highlight everything without really explaining it.

    FAR: May 1st, 2014 - 91
    AUD: May 29th, 2014 - 97!
    BEC: July 16th, 2014 - 91
    REG: August 29th, 2014 - 88

I hate listening to the lectures but I find that they're pretty helpful in the end. Of course, going back through and rereading, taking my own notes, and even supplementing with youtube videos helps me the most but I definitely find a benefit in listening to the lectures. I think Gearty does a better job at explaining the concepts…Olinto goes too quickly for me and his horrible jokes get on my nerves 🙂

AUD: PASSED [81]; Expired, retaking August 23rd
BEC: PASSED [83]; Expired, retaking July 11th
    REG: PASSED [83]
FAR: FAILED [64]; Retaking May 23rd

I make myself watch everything at least once just to let things set in, but then I go straight to the MCs in the Becker software. I usually go back and “speed watch” the lectures after having worked all the questions: fast forwarding items I understand and focusing on complex or detailed spots. Probably translates to about 80 hours of study for AUD & BEC, 100 for REG and 120 for FAR.

    REG - 2/4/14 - 94
    BEC - 2/27/14 - 93
    FAR - 4/14/14 - 95
    AUD - 5/12/14 - 96

"Overstudying" = take the test once. (Becker only)

@MustPass, I don't know about you, but I like Olinto better. I don't think Olinto is actually joking. Being goofy seems to be just his second-nature so he looks and sounds funny, at least to me. It makes my whole studying with him a lot interesting and lively.

I agree with you Amor. I like Olinto. I am going thru F4 right now and I am actually learning while listening to the lectures. Gearty sucks the life out of the lecture. He simply reads off..no explanations.

Summarizing everyone's points: it depends on you.

I passed my first 2 ONLY watching lectures and without looking at the book. The only reason I've opened the books at all was to look at the material they don't cover in the lectures (internal audit, IT terminology, etc.).

    REG - 83
    BEC - 81
    AUD - 73, 92
    FAR - 90

    Done!

I know that I would learn nothing my watching lectures or listening to audio, so I didn't even bother with a review course that had these options. All depends on your learning style. I just read (and usually reread) and do thousands of MCQ and SIMs. Jeff's flashcards work pretty well for me also.

    FAR 12/3/14, 87
    AUD 2/3/14, 90
    BEC 4/1/14, 88
    REG 5/27/14, 94

After the first week, I decided to not use Becker and got a refund. I choose to stick with CPAexcel, Ninja Notes, Ninja Audio, and Wiley Test Bank, which I already have. We will see in 2 weeks if that is the right choice.
