What are my chances of being able to take REG this quarter (Q3-2018)? I sent my application to the California state board along with a check, and ordered my transcripts to be sent there about ten days ago. I heard it is taking 7-8 weeks, which puts that at the end of August or beginning of Sept.

If I hear from them at that time, will I receive an NTS immediately or is there something else that has to happen? If I receive the NTS, what is the likelihood that there will still be exam slots available for Q3 at that time?

Got bad news for you, when your application gets accepted and you get to select the section you want to take, CA happens to be one of five states that aren't on board with the NASBA gateway therefore they have to remit your selected sections to the NASBA for them to process, then after that you get your payment coupon and once you pay, you wait some more for your NTS. I posted a rant earlier but basically it took over 2 weeks for the CBA to process my re-application, and it has been over a week since my section selection was remitted and still no word from the NASBA on my payment coupon when for most other states it's been only one or two days.

Having that said, regardless you should proceed forward. If you are working and your job is flexible in the sense that you are able to schedule any day during the week then you should be able to squeeze a section in before the end of the testing window which ends Sept. 10th. With the current processing time, you'll cut it close though. What you should do when your application is approved is select your next 2-3 sections depending how much you are able to study and/or willing to pay all at once, so worst case if you miss Q3 window, just schedule for the beginning of Q4 right away and then one more at the mid-end of Q4.

cba told me the 6-8 week waiting period starts on the day you passed step 4
so it basically takes 7-9 weeks (6-8 weeks for board and 1 week for nasba) after you pass step 4

Thanks to you both for this solid advice/feedback. Just logged into my CBA account and I hit step 4 today. It's going to be close. **fingers crossed**
